Brownwood Park Mural Complete

Local artist, renaissance man, and former East Atlanta resident, Adrian Barzaga, designed and painted the mural with the help of many East Atlanta residents. The mural, which is located at the corner of Ormewood Ave. and Brownwood Ave., was started in the fall of 2013. Adrian very generously donated his time and some materials, and the East Atlanta Community Association used fundraising money from several craft fairs to purchase the remainder of the materials.

Many East Atlanta residents were involved during several mural workdays and many of their handprints are featured on the park entrance side, adding a true neighborhood feel to the piece. After a winter full of inclement weather and a spring packed with rainy weekends, the mural was finished in late May 2014.

The East Atlanta community thanks Adrian and community members for their hard work and dedication to finish the project.

Thank You from Beautification Committee

EACA and the Beautification Committee would like to thank all of the volunteers who donated their time, energy and enthusiasm to cleaning up the Village Saturday, May 24. We were able to prune some trees, pick up lots of trash, and clean up the parking lot between Flat Shoals and Gresham.

There's still lots to do, so if you're inspired and grateful for EAV's facelift, stay tuned for our next clean up and consider joining us. Thank you to Grant Central for the love and water!

"Not since STEEL MAGNOLIAS has a more colorful and dysfunctional group of Southern eccentrics gathered below the Mason-Dixon line. When the patriarch of the Turpin family keels over dead in the first scene, the struggle to get him buried involves the whole clan, including the not-so-grieving widow who wants to put "Mean and Surly" on the tombstone." - NY Post

Summer 'Peace and Carrots Camps' for Children @ Local EA Farm

Oakleaf Mennonite Farm is a local nine-acre urban farm on Bouldercrest Drive in East Atlanta with acres of crop fields, chickens, goats, and sheep. We believe that kids should know where their food comes from, and our camps will teach them not only where good food comes from, but they'll also get hands-on experience.

Children will work side-by-side with farmers planting and harvesting, taking care of animals, and enjoying the work of the farm. They will also enjoy games, songs, crafts, drama and service projects that affirm their spirits and stimulate their compassion.

In our camps, we also help children work on skills of peace building - think win-win games, conflict transformation, and teamwork strategies. Campers will also be taught skills to deal with their problems in a peaceful manner and encouraged to come up with their own creative solutions to the problems they see at camp, home, school, and in the world.

We use the award-winning "Peace Train" curriculum developed by Little Friends for Peace to show kids how each step in conflict can be a chance to turn things to a different end. Local peace activists will share a story or two with the children as well.

Friday Food for Firefighters

It's always a great time to deliver a meal to our local

firefighters, and it has been a little while since they have had a visit!

Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The firefighters request food without pork. A full kitchen is available to them at the fire station and they can heat something as needed. Meals should be delivered between 5:00 - 5:30 p.m.

Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals. You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends--one or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.

Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant at 404-455-8746 for information or with questions.
