Thanks to everyone who came out to last week's EACA meeting and to support the East Atlanta Foundation at the Beer Fest on Saturday!

Symbols of East Atlanta

When you hear someone say "East Atlanta" what do you see in your mind's eye?  What symbols are representative of your neighborhood?  We are looking for creative (and positive!) ideas to help us (EACA) create new imagery for the association and the neighborhood. Some ideas to get your thoughts flowing:

Flat Iron Building

Glenwood/Flat Shoals Intersection

Rooster

Tori's "You Look Nice Today" sign

Sangbu the Dragon

B*ATL

Send an email with words or pictures to [email protected]  Look for the EACA tent at the East Atlanta Farmers Market in the coming weeks to share your ideas in person.

Wanting to get involved in EACA?

We are currently in search of a new chair for the Communications Committee.  If you're interested, please email [email protected]

Village Beautification - Saturday May 24!

Please join your Beautification Committee as we clean up the Village Saturday, May 24th between 10 AM and 12 Noon.  Neighbors will be beautifying the area, cleaning up trash discarded by patrons and festival-goers.  We'll be meeting at the intersection of Flat Shoals & Glenwood in front of the planter.  Please bring garden gloves and any sun and/or insect block for protection. Please contact Brandy at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.

Southeast Atlanta's Middle School Challenge!

As the Atlanta Public School (APS) system begins to reachthe end of another academic school year as well as the final days of the current superintendent, Errol Davis, there was one question that many parents in southeast Atlanta needed answered: to merge or not to merge?

During the 2013-2014 school year the APS Board, Local School Counci Chairs, PTA Presidents, Prinicplas, Southeast Atlanta Communities for Schools (SEACS) as well as many other engaged members of the southeast communities, continued to focus on solving, as Davis stated, "Southeast Atlanta's middle school challenge." This conversation included discussing the possibilities of kindergarten - 8th grade education (K-8) at one local elementary school, Toomer Elementary, K-8 at potentially all three elementary schools on the east side of the cluster to finally merging both middle schools serving the Jackson High School Cluster.

Friday Food for Firefighters

It's always a great time to deliver a meal to our local firefighters, and it has been a little while since they have had a visit!

Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The firefighters request food without pork.  A full kitchen is available to them at the fire station and they can heat something as needed. Meals should be delivered between 5 - 5:30 PM.

Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals.  You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends--one or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.

Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant (404-455-8746) for information or with questions.
