Don't forget, EACA Monthly Meeting this Tuesday, March 11 @ 7pm in Branan Towers

9th Annual Georgia Rides to the Capital 3/18

The 9th annual Georgia Rides To The Capitol (GRTTC) ride is Tuesday, March 18, 2014. This great event brings over 1500 cyclists to the state capitol to show support for better bicycling in Georgia. In addition, 30 - 50 metro area mayors, elected and state officials participate as the ride is co-sponsored by our statewide advocacy group, Georgia Bikes, the Metro Atlanta Mayors Association (MAMA) and the Georgia Municipal Association (GMA).  There is no other Georgia ride that brings out this many local and state officials and it provides a great opportunity to promote cycling in our state.

There are two police escorted rides (one way) from Decatur and Roswell plus a number of auxiliary rides that connect to these rides or meet at the Capitol. Decatur is easy paced; Roswell is faster paced.

Event organizers are asking for your help in promoting the ride through your website, newsletter, Facebook page and other social media.  Past GRTTC rides have helped get Georgia's 3 foot Safe Passing bill and the GDOT's Complete Street Policy adopted - Lt. Governor Cagle has ridden with us and Governor Deal has addressed the riders at the Capitol. This event brings results!

Please consider inviting your group to join us on the ride or have them contact us for more information. Detailed event, registration and donation information is available on the website:

Update from Friends of East Atlanta Library

Due to recent budget cuts in the Atlanta-Fulton County Library System, the East Atlanta Branch is now closed on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays.  Because the library is one of our most valuable community resources, the Friends of East Atlanta Library are petitioning the Fulton County Commissioners to reverse this decision and reopen our library six days a week.  To sign the petition or to learn more, please visit the Friends of East Atlanta Library Facebook page.

The Friends of East Atlanta Library would like to thank all those that came out for the first book sale of the year, Saturday, March 1.  All proceeds from the book sale help to fund much-needed library materials and supplies.  The next book sale will be June 28.  Acceptance of your book donations is on-going.  Please drop off your gently-used books with the East Atlanta Library circulation desk during regular library hours.

A BIG thanks to the Elder Tree Public House, the March library programs sponsor!  Please visit the library during the month of March to pick-up a 10% off coupon for the Elder Tree.

Farm Mobile - Midway Pub, Thursdays 4:30-7pm

Farm Mobile is your mobile farmers market that makes stops throughout central Atlanta every week, year round. We are at the Midway Pub, Thursday evenings 4:30-7pm.  Inside the truck, you'll find fresh locally grown produce and meats, much of it certified organic, and all of it grown by the best small family farms in our area. We also stock pantry goods created by talented artisans launching their new local food-focused businesses. Find some of Atlanta's hottest new local food here first!

Our weekly schedule includes partner locations -- area businesses and farmers markets. We park at each location for a couple of hours, and shoppers enter the truck and shop from our shelves, fridges, and freezer. We accept cash, check, credit and debit cards, and EBT.

Friday Food for Firefighters

It's always a great time to deliver a meal to our local firefighters, and it has been a little while since they have had a visit!

Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The firefighters request food without pork.  A full kitchen is available to them at the fire station and they can heat something as needed. Meals should be delivered between 5 - 5:30 PM.

Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals.  You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends--one or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.

Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant (404-455-8746) for information or with questions.
