Happy Monday!

With school right around the corner find a couple of ways to ring in the new year below as well as other activities of interest.

Get ready for this fall's EACA production...
The Deep!  Kick-off event on August 3rd

Far below the surface of The Big Blue, floats a Drowned World where haunting beauty hides a sinister soul, shimmering light leads to infinite darkness, and the Monsters of The Deep reign absolutely.

Do you dare test your sea legs?

Please join EACA's Arts and Culture committee, The Flying Graces and The Funk Pirates on August 3rd for a live action Kickstarter to help fund the creation of our Drowned World. All proceeds from the event go to benefit the
East Atlanta Community Association

Buy a souvenir cup that comes filled with one of our seaworthy concoctions, dance to the disco of the Funk Pirates, meet the sexy sirens of The Deep and go home with some local booty! We'll be raffling off a veritable treasure trove from local businesses and artists.

All at Argosy - East Atlanta's must be seen to be believed restaurant and bar!
  Stay tuned for details.

Donate books to Friends of East Atlanta Library annual book sale

Friends of East Atlanta Library (FEAL) is looking for a lot of gently read books for its big annual fundraising book sale during the EAV Strut on September 21st. The group is accepting book donations now at the East Atlanta Library as long as they are free of mold and in fair condition. Money raised at the FEAL book sale primarily helps fund children's programming and the widely circulated book collections. Library budget cuts over the past few years have eliminated funding for children's programming and with East Atlanta's growing number of younger families with children, maintaining the library's great programs and activities has become one of FEAL's top priorities.

You may bring your books to the circulation desk at the library anytime during regular library hours. If you are interested in supporting the library by becoming a member of FEAL, pick up a brochure and membership form at the circulation desk. If you would like to volunteer to help sort books before the sale (with a chance to get a first peak at the offerings) or work on the day of the book sale, please contact FEAL at [email protected].

Notice: Temporary closure of McPherson Ave.

Please be advised that McPherson Avenue, SE between Flat Shoals Avenue and Moreland Avenue will be temporarily closed to allow for construction activity associated with the East Atlanta Village Streetscape Improvement Project.

The City of Atlanta Department of Public Works will be upgrading the traffic signals, removing the traffic median, realigning the curb and sidewalk, replacing the existing concrete sidewalk, installing brick pavers, and a round-a-bout on McPherson Avenue between Moreland Avenue and Flat Shoals Avenue.  Due to the use of heavy construction equipment, it is necessary to close the roadway for safety purposes.  The road closure is scheduled to end in early November.

For more information about this project, including a detailed detour plan, visit http://www.atlantaga.gov/index.aspx?page=732&recordid=2026.

Friday Food for Firefighters

Summer is in full swing and it's a great time to deliver a meal to our local firefighters!  Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The Firefighters request food without pork.  A full kitchen is available to them at the Fire Station and they can heat something as needed.  Meals should be delivered between 5 - 5:30 PM.

Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals.  You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends. For example:  One or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.

Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant (404-455-8746) for information or with questions.
