Wylde Center's Urban Farm Camp |
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a farmer, a beekeeper, or a chef? Do you like to dig into the dirt and explore the world around you? Want to get up close and personal with how a garden works, how to grow your own food, and how to care for the environment? Then the Wylde Center's Urban Farm Camp is just the place for you! This week-long day camp will give children ages 5-11 the chance to experience what it is like to be a farmer in the city. Children will learn to take care of a garden, pick vegetables, and cook with the vegetables they harvest. As they learn about the plants, bees, chickens, and more in the garden, they will have fun making art, playing games, and getting their hands in the dirt. Local gardeners, chefs, and farming experts will teach children the basics of gardening, cooking , and taking care of the environment. Want to give it a try and learn in the garden? Then come join us this summer!

News from Friends of East Atlanta Library |
Student Letter Art exhibit now on display at the EAL
Atlanta Neighborhood Charter School middle school students have been discovering their abilities in the visual arts with letter art. After learning some basic techniques to give a visual presence to letters, the students used the techniques to express quotes they found profound or powerful. FEAL is delighted to have some of their results on display on the gallery wall in the EAL Meeting Room through the end of May. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of these works goes to fund programming and materials at the East Atlanta Library. To view the students letter art display, please ask at the circulation desk and the staff will be happy to let you in.
Special FEAL membership offer through June
The East Atlanta Library is offering fine forgiveness for overdue books to all FEAL members through the month of June. So if you haven't yet joined for 2013, now is the perfect time to do so. Friday Food for Firefighters |
Summer is nearly here and it's a great time to deliver a meal to our local firefighters! Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The Firefighters request food without pork. A full kitchen is available to them at the Fire Station and they can heat something as needed. Meals should be delivered between 5 - 5:30 PM.
Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals. You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends. For example: One or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.
Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant (404-455-8746) for information or with questions.

East Atlanta Security Patrol
|

The East Atlanta Security Patrol ("EASP") is an effort to enhance safety in East Atlanta. Specifically, off-duty Zone Six Police Officers will be hired to perform additional patrols within Beat 612, which is the police designation for the East Atlanta community, beyond those presently being performed by the police. The amount of time that the officers shall patrol will be determined by the level of support from the community in terms of membership. Since more members mean more patrol hours, we encourage you to share this information with your neighbors and East Atlanta business owners.
The EASP is in need of help via donations to assist in the East Atlanta Village Patrol, particularly in light of the significant incidents that have occurred in East Atlanta in the last month. To learn more about the East Atlanta Security Patrol, view updated news and notes or to enroll, visit the EASP website. There is a 50% discount for longtime residents and those 65+. To qualify, you must have lived at the same address for 20 years or be over age 65. We also have a 20% discount for members of an APD-sanctioned Neighborhood Watch. Please contact us if you're interested in setting up a Neighborhood Watch on your street.
If you have additional questions, please direct them to easp610@gmail.com, or call EASP Organizer Myron Polster (404-954-1568). |
