Truly Living Well Summer Camp:  Where Dirt Rocks and Compost Cooks!

Truly Living Well, an urban farm located in the heart of Atlanta and a national leader in urban agriculture, will be hosting a summer camp for kids 6-14 years old, with 4 sessions running from early June to early August.

Truly Living Well is located on four acres of  green space known as Wheat Street Garden.  Our program provides children with a full immersion into a working farm.  Campers receive generous amounts of outdoor time and physical activity, as they interact with the land and an abundance of plant life. They design and install garden beds,  play garden games, create beautiful works of art and learn the basics of  growing food naturally. We cover topics such as composting, vermiculture, beneficial and harmful insects, water conservation, plant anatomy, and more.  All of these are taught in an experiential, hands-on manner that is fun and engaging for young people.

Nutrition education and healthy food choices are also an important part of the program.  Our plant-based lunches are prepared by a professional chef and these are supplemented by organic snacks twice daily. Campers also swim two times a week and have afternoon cool-down time in our comfortable classrooms across the street where we read, write, play games and do a variety of art projects.

Please visit our web site for more info and registration forms at www.trulylivingwell.com or email camp@trulylivingwell.com.

Friday Food for Firefighters

Spring is here and it's a great time to deliver a meal to our local firefighters!  Providing a meal means having a cooked meal to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening. The Firefighters request food without pork.  A full kitchen is available to them at the Fire Station and they can heat something as needed.  Meals should be delivered between 5 - 5:30 PM.

Sign up here (password is "friday") to see what dates are available for meals.  You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends. For example:  One or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.

Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant (404-455-8746) for information or with questions.
