East Atlanta Santa
Checklist Image

East Atlanta Santa is back for his sixth year and he's as jolly as ever. His visit will coincide with East Atlanta Santa Fest, a mini-festival on Saturday, December 1, sponsored by the East Atlanta Community Association and the East Atlanta Business Association.

The pictures with East Atlanta Santa event will be Saturday and Sunday from 9:30 until 12:30 and 2 until 5 at Joe's Coffee and Avenue Realty. Santa welcomes young and old, two-legged and four-legged to bring their wish lists and pose for a CD of pictures for $15, with all proceeds benefitting East Atlanta Kids Club, Atlanta Beagle Rescue and Atlanta Bully Rescue

You can make a reservation to visit Santa on Sunday. (Saturday morning reservations have been filled.) Reservations are in 10-minute increments. The Saturday afternoon shift will be first-come, first-served. Santa also fits in walk-in visitors on the reservation shifts as time allows. You're also welcome to stop by and see Santa whenever he's free, even if you don't want a picture.

The tree decorating contest is open to families, businesses or any other group that wants to adopt and decorate one of the trees on the west side of Flat Shoals.

For more information on the festival or to make a reservation, please e-mail EAVSanta@gmail.com
Brownwood Park Water Fountains close for the season
Checklist Image

The water fountains at Brownwood Park will be shut down from December 1, 2012 to March 1 2013. Turning off the water is a precaution taken to prevent water fountain pipes from breaking if we have a hard freeze. If you have questions please contact parks@eaca.net.

Brownwood Park Community Garden needs your leaves!
Checklist Image

Brownwood Park Community Garden is asking for leaves in bags for the garden. The leaves will be placed on the plots and this provides mulch that breaks down to amend the soil. In the spring we will till the leaf mulch into the soil. Your help in getting as many leaves as possible is greatly appreciated.  Please drop your bags off by the entrance to the garden (behind the tennis courts on Pendleton).

Friends of East Atlanta Library Upcoming Events
Checklist Image

FEAL is sponsoring a special visit from Santa and a puppet show to help spread the Christmas spirit to the neighborhood this year. Santa will be visiting the East Atlanta Library on Saturday, December 8 from noon until 2 pm. Children (and, yes, adults, too) can tell Santa how nice they've been this year and what they would like for Christmas. Parents, bring your cameras and take lots of photos.

The popular Piccadilly Puppets will return on Tuesday, December 18 at 10:30 am in the library Meeting Room with their delightful version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" filled with silly twists and turns. You might want to get there early to make certain you have a seat!

Friends School of Atlanta Open House
Checklist Image

The Friends School of Atlanta (FSA) offers three great ways to learn more about Quaker education and its Pre-K through 8th grade offerings.

On Saturday, January 19, 2013, you are invited to an informal in-home gathering hosted by current FSA families from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm, at 492 Clifton Road in Candler Park/Lake Claire.  You will have an opportunity to meet with the host families, FSA students and Waman French, Head of School, to hear more about the FSA program and get answers to your questions.

You are also welcome to attend an Open House on the FSA campus at 862 Columbia Drive in Decatur on Saturday, December 1, 2012, Saturday, January 12, 2013, or Saturday, February 2, 2013. All of these admissions events, to be held from 10:00 am to noon, are designed to inform families considering application to FSA for the 2013-2014 school year.

FSA also regularly conducts two-hour school tours during school hours, where you will get an overview of Quaker education and have an in-depth discussion of the academic program and life of the school community. You will also have an opportunity to meet with students, tour the school and observe in classrooms. Separate tours are offered for Pre-K - 4th grade and 5th - 8th grade families. To learn about tour dates and make a reservation, please visit the home page of FSA's website: www.friendsschoolatlanta.org

Friday Food for Firefighters
Checklist Image

Winter is upon us and it's a great time to deliver a meal to our local firefighters!

Providing a meal means having a meal, already cooked, to hand over to the firefighters at Station 13 on Friday evening.  The Firefighters request food without pork.  A full kitchen is available to them at the Fire Station and they can heat something as needed.  Delivery of meals is usually between 5-5:30PM.

Sign up here (pw: friday) to see what dates are available for meals.  You might think about sharing different parts of a meal with friends. For example:  one or two people might provide the main meal, another could provide bread or a side dish or dessert.

Please call Beth-Ann Buitekant (404-455-8746) for information or if you have questions.
