Dikembe Mutombo visits EAKC |
On Tuesday, 16th October at 5:00pm, philanthropist, humanitarian, 18-year NBA veteran, and creator of the foundation that bears his name, Dikembe Mutombo will visit the East Atlanta Kids Club (EAKC). All youth in the community are invited to attend.
During his visit, Mutumbo is expected to deliver a special message to East Atlanta's children and to address questions . And just MAYBE, if the kids ask politely, he may even remind them why "Man does not fly in the house of Mutombo."
Founded in 1997, the Dikembe Mutombo Foundation was chartered to improve the health, education and quality of life for the people of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Beyond the many accolades and honors accumulated in the United States, Mutombo has established a state-of-the-art medical facility -- the Biamba Marie Mutombo Hospital and Research Center -- in Kinshasa, capital city of his homeland, the Democratic Republic of Congo, where ready access to modern medical care is urgently needed.
Mutombo's visit will take place at the Brownwood Recreation Center, 602 Brownwood Avenue, in East Atlanta.

Soup and Shop for Branan Towers |
On Thursday, October 18th, Branan Towers will be hosting a soup-n-shop for the female residents of Branan Towers. This ministry enables each of the ladies at Branan Towers to "shop" for clothes as a gift. The majority of residents are elderly and unable to get out and do a lot of shopping.
Martha Brown United Methodist Church is collecting nice, used clothes for these ladies. Items can be dropped off at the church, and please make sure items are in good usable condition. We'll do the rest.

Burgess-Peterson Academy Fall Festival |

Refreshments will be available for sale from local food trucks, including Palookaville, King of Pops, Mix'd Up, Nana G's, and Just Good Food Now.

Fall Jazz Mingle at The Library |
It's getting cool at the Library! The Friends of East Atlanta Library are having a "Fall Jazz Mingle at The Library" on Friday evening, October 19th. Wine, finger foods, and the mellow sounds of the Tom Marnell Combo surrounded by books will be the perfect atmosphere for neighbors to unwind and meet. There will be a quick intermission to announce the annual Friends Board election results. The fun begins at 6 pm and will end around 8 pm - in time to adjourn for dinner in the East Atlanta Village.
The folk quilts of artist Debra Baker Steinmann will also be featured and on display in the Meeting Room during the Fall Jazz Mingle.
