HEARTBEATS
NEWSLETTER SUBTITLE

Where did all this snow come from? We're pretty sure that we've been spoiled lately with the warm temperate weather and dry sunny days! However, winter has finally made its appearance and we are doing our best to deal with the cold, snow and ice out here at the ranch!

This newsletter is loaded with new announcements, upcoming plans and events as well as some accolades to an amazing volunteer. Keep on reading to see what's happening out at the ranch.
New Beginnings for Hannah and Amy

As you may have seen on Facebook there are going to be some staffing changes around the ranch. Both Hannah our Program Coordinator and Amy our Office Manager will be leaving us to pursue new opportunities at different locations.

Hannah will be relocating to Wyoming in March to be closer to her husband as well as continuing to purse her passion of therapeutic riding at a center closer to where she will be living.

Amy will be relocating to Georgia in March as well and is so excited to be back on the east coast, closer to family, friends and embraced in warm weather. Amy will also continue to pursue her love of therapeutic riding with her recent certification as a Registered Level Instructor.

While we are sad to see them go, we are also so excited for the great opportunities ahead for these two amazing individuals. Hearts & Horses will host a pot-luck going away party on Friday, March 13th from 11-1 PM at the ranch in the Classroom and Office Building. Feel free to come hang out for a bit and get in one last hug before they leave on their new adventures!

Volunteer Spotlight: Dave Culbertson

If you've been out the ranch at all lately I'm sure you've run into Dave at some point. He is always willing to lend a hand, help with turn in or turn out, and horse lead for you if need be. He is truly an asset and was one of our Top 3 Volunteers in hours for 2014! To show our appreciation Dave received a custom made vest to sport around the ranch. I think he is very happy with our choice and has been wearing it every day to stay warm in this bitter cold weather! Thank you Dave for your amazing dedication and contributions to Hearts & Horses.

Horse Spotlight

Mac

Mac came to Hearts & Horses in July of 2013 through a donation and all that we can say is he is worth his weight in gold. Whether beginner riders looking for a quiet, steady and smooth ride or an advanced rider learning flying lead changes and collection, Mac has it all. He is one of our most knowledgeable horses as well as the kindest, always looking for a nice pat on the neck or a little treat left in his feeder.

Coming in at 16.3 hands Mac is definitely not a small guy and his size can be intimidating until you get to know him! While he is an American Paint Horse you might not know it as he only has one small splash of color on his left side. If you are out at the ranch swing on by the south paddock and say hello!
Search for a "Super" Pony

Hearts & Horses would like to announce that we are looking for an all around outstanding pony to join our team! A pony who is quiet but attentive, able bodied and who has a great personality. Looking for a walk, trot, canter capable pony who is safe, well-trained and able to carry a variety of riders and weights. We are looking for a pony between 12 and 14 hands high to fill out our incredible herd of equine therapists.

Do you know of a Super Pony who would be a great addition to our herd? Check out our Horse Donation/Lease page HERE for more information and the required forms.

Each equine donated or leased to Hearts & Horses must:

Be unflappable (nothing bothers them), comfortable around a variety of people, comfortable standing tied, forgiving of an inexperienced and unbalanced rider, old enough to have life's experiences and fit enough to work 4-5 days per week, and well-trained under saddle to respond to all four aids: hands, feet, seat and voice, completely sound in all four limbs.

It is essential that our equines have a free-moving stride at the walk, trot, and canter and are capable of smooth transitions,  Additionally, equines must have full and complete vision, a solid, strong back and good all-around fitness.
