HEARTBEATS
NEWSLETTER SUBTITLE

Happy Valentines Day! While the world is busy celebrating love this weekend, we too would like to celebrate the love we have for our volunteers, participants, horses and staff.

We are so honored to have such a loyal support base and people who value and appreciate our programs and the help that we provide to so many...

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts, always.
The Foundation for Global Sports Development
Exceptional Youth Scholarship

We would love spread the word!  The Exceptional Youth Scholarship will recognize 10 high school juniors and seniors for outstanding contributions to their community through volunteerism or mentorship, as well as maintaining a high level of academic achievement. As part of the application process, students are asked to describe their family's financial situation. While the FAFSA looks solely at the numbers, we want to know the stories behind those numbers and how the scholar will be affected.

The Foundation began accepting applications for the scholarship on February 5th and will continue through May 16, 2015. The scholarship recipients will be announced June 15th.

A reminder to update your volunteer paperwork by completing a 2015 Volunteer Update Form -- a shortened (significantly!!) version of our Volunteer Packet that is a requirement annually. You can CLICK HERE to download this form or stop by and get one from Amy or Katie.

Volunteer Spotlight: Rich Hedlund

If you've been in the office throughout the winter, you've probably noticed the Blizzard Buster Barn Buddies basket by the main entrance. Rich was the December winner of this basket and shared with us his thoughts, thanks and experiences at Hearts & Horses:

"I want to thank all of you at Hearts & Horses for the opportunity to win the wonderful basket of goodies. I realize that it was by luck that my name was drawn, but what really makes it important is that it is one more thing that lets the volunteers know that you recognize our importance to Hearts & Horses.

I also want to thank you, the board, and all the trainers for making H & H what it is today and enabling us, the volunteers, an opportunity to work along side some of the most wonderful people, horses, and clients that I have every experienced being with before. I truly love what I'm doing at H & H and hope that in some way I'm contributing to making this center one of the best of its kind in the country."

Thank you Rich, for you continued support, smiles and your dedication to our mission. We are so thankful to you have in the family!

Have you heard of Interactive Vaulting?

Interactive Vaulting encourages participants to work as a team with each other and their equine partner to perform fun movements on or around the equine. Classes range from 3 to 6 participants who can learn anything from how to kneel on a walking equine to standing on an equine at the canter.

Interactive Vaulting fosters teamwork, teaches respect for the horse, fosters independence, builds confidence, encourages social interaction, offers individualized instruction while mounted, and it introduces all gaits in a short period of time.

Interested in finding out how to become involved? Equine Manager and Vaulting Instructor, Liz DeKock teaches engaging Interactive Vaulting Lessons for participants of all ages and abilities.

Horse Spotlight

Blanca

Blanca came to Hearts & Horses in October of 2014 and has now become a permanent part of the Hearts & Horses herd. You may have noticed Blanca when she first came to the ranch as she was very vocal when in the barn alone. You may have actually heard her before you saw her!

She is quite the social butterfly and loves being with other horses both when turned out and in lessons. Blanca is a Spanish Barb/Quarter Horse cross and is considered a "flea bitten grey" so she is primarily white with some darker grey hairs. Blanca is a very sweet, steady girl who has become a great addition to our herd and we are so lucky to have her.

Hearts & Horses is now a Thrivent Choice® Nonprofit!

If you are a Thrivent member, you can recommend where some of Thrivent Financial's charitable outreach funds go. Since 2010, eligible members have used this program to direct more than $225 million to churches and nonprofits nationwide. Thank you to Linda, who recommended us and Thrivent for approving her request!
