HEARTBEATS
NEWSLETTER SUBTITLE

What a few weeks this has been! We thought Fall was arriving, then winter and now back to 90 degree days! What is happening!? Session 4 is in full swing, volunteers are all around and the day finally arrived when The Varsity came to Colorado!

I think this issue of Heartbeats can be summed up with Thank You! Thank You to our supporters, our volunteers, our riders, our donors and our community. Without your continued support we would not be here and for that we are so grateful.
HE'S HERE!
The Varsity has arrived!

Please join us in welcoming The Varsity to Hearts & Horses! After months of voting, the anticipation and then postponement of his arrival he FINALLY made it to Hearts & Horses and Colorado!

The Varsity arrived to Hearts & Horses on Wednesday evening
to the eager anticipation of staff, friends and volunteers.

Thank you to all of our incredible community members who helped to fund this gorgeous gelding's trip home to Hearts & Horses from Tennessee: Kathy Wise, Jan Baynton, Deborah Boehler, DVM, S. Collins, Ginny & Noah Peterson, Alexandra Whittey, Paul Berger, Lynn Duncan, Marissa Castaneda,
Michelle Purdy, Rhonda Viktora, Debbie Vischer, The Pollema Family, Teachmichigan, Chris & Rene Price, Weyer/Larkin Family, Pabst Family, Maggie Palazzari, Deb Cheuvront, Caela Manley and several anonymous donors.  Amazing!

While we know that everyone is excited to meet him and help out, please keep in mind that he is in a new environment with a lot of changes and new friends. In order to help The Varsity settle in and not be overwhelmed, he will only be handled by Equine Staff for the time being. We hope this will allow him to relax and start to form a relationship with those individuals who will be working with him the most, allowing him to grow into his new calling as a therapy horse. So please, view from afar and let him slowly get used to all the admiration, oooo's and ahhhh's that we are sure he will be receiving.
Intern Spotlight:
Welcome Kara to Hearts & Horses

My name is Kara Sullivan and I am a recent addition to the Hearts and Horses team. I am an intern mentoring under the supervision of Hannah for the fall semester until I graduate in December with my Bachelors of Social Work. I have been involved with Hearts and Horses since last spring when I had the opportunity to work with the organization for my groups and communities class helping with volunteer appreciation week and finding sponsors to provide incentive prizes for the Cliff's DRIVE2RIDE. With the opportunity last spring I was fortunate enough to be accepted as an intern to return this fall.
Now for a little about myself, I was born and raised in Colorado Springs where I lived until 2009 when I came to Fort Collins to attend CSU. I have always had a passion for animals and people. When I began at CSU I planned on following my grandfather's footsteps into the Veterinary program which quickly changed when I found my true interest in the Social Work program, especially the Animal Assisted Therapy side. This avenue is incredibly valuable to me because it satisfies both my passion for animals while helping people. Hearts and Horses is the best experience I could imagine for my undergraduate internship and I look forward to the opportunities that my experience at Hearts and Horses will open up for my future professional career.
Lookin' Good Miss Holly!

Remember Miss Holly?  Recently Miss Holly got a chance to strut her stuff during the recent event to commemorate the Historic Preservation of the Loveland Elks Lodge. Anna Schlagel riding Miss Holly, and Cate Schlagel riding Homer joined the Rooftop Rodeo Queen from Estes Park to deliver the proclamation to be read by Mayor Cecil Gutierrez. Way to go Cate, Anna and Miss Holly -- lookin' good!

A few of our riders took part in the Person First Parade on Saturday the 13th and had a blast! Carrying the Hearts & Horses banner and some stick horses, they represented us well!

The Person First Festival and Parade celebrates people with disabilities and their accomplishments!

Thank you riders and volunteers!
Thank you to the following businesses and organizations!
Hearts & Horses couldn't do what we do without such amazing support from our Northern Colorado Business Community and Organizations.  We are so blessed and thankful for everyone's support.

A hearty thanks to Lawrence and Tammi Long of the Northern Colorado Mustang Car Club (NCMCC) who stopped by Hearts & Horses to present us (& Cola too!) with a check for $2,500! This generous donation represents the net proceeds from this year's All American Car Show that took place in July. We are honored to be chosen as the charity beneficiary for the 6th year in a row and are looking forward to next year's show on July 11, 2015!
