Our Fall Session (Session 4) is off to a great start! Volunteers and riders are glad to be back and for the past week or so we have had a bit of a break from the 90 degree days we had a couple weeks ago!

Meredith on Sadie; Liz on Allie


 

Last week, Meredith Hodges came out to Hearts & Horses for an incredible day of professional development for the Hearts & Horses staff. During the day, Meredith demonstrated training and equine handling techniques, using Allie and Sadie, the two mules that she donated to Hearts & Horses. Hearts & Horses staff spent time in the classroom and in the arena with Meredith as she shared her training tools that aid in effectively communicating with equines while developing their balance and working toward conditioning, so they can perform to the best of their ability as equine therapists and in any other career. 

 

While Hearts & Horses focuses on equines as Therapeutic Partners, Meredith's training techniques are invaluable for horsemen and horsewomen of all backgrounds. 

  

Meredith and Lucky Three Ranch have been long time supporter of Hearts & Horses and all of our diverse programs. We so value her support and guidance and look forward to our continued partnership and friendship in the future! Thank you Meredith!

Wednesday, September 3rd
Pint Night at Loveland Aleworks
Loveland Aleworks (118 West 4th St., Loveland, CO 80537) is hosting a pint night to benefit Hearts & Horses! With every pint sold on Wednesday, September 3rd between 6 and 11 PM, Loveland Aleworks will donate $1.00 to Hearts & Horses. Come on out for a fun, relaxing night after a busy Labor Day weekend. Loveland Aleworks is an independent, family-owned brewery that offers a selection of small batch handcrafted beers for your enjoyment! Check them out on Facebook HERE.
September 13th - its a Parade!



 
Hearts & Horses will be participating in the "Person First Festival" Parade formerly known as the Colorado Disability Pride Fest on September 13th at 10:30 am.  This is a very short parade and we would love to encourage any volunteers, participants and their families to join us -- just email or call Katie Meininger - katie@heartsandhorses.org (970) 663-4200.

And the WINNERS are...

After a heated competition of guesses for Sunny and Zulu's weights we have our winners! 

For Sunny, weight guesses ranged from 850 to 2,500 lbs with the winner, Linde Bischak, guessing Sunny's exact weight of 1,001 lbs!



For Zulu: weights ranged from 1,200 to 3,500 lbs with the winner, Stephanie Coon, guessing 1,200 lbs,. which was the closest to Zulu's actual weight of 1,306 lbs without going over!

Hearts and Horses hosted a fabulous group of volunteers from Constant Contact last week.
The hard working group assisted with numerous projects on the Trail of Discovery, including mounting a few of our newly painted sensory boxes, weeding the sensory garden and other routine maintenance on the trail.  

We are so thankful to local business that value the spirit of volunteerism in the work place!
