Horse Spotlight - Big Mac
 | |
"Big Mac"
|
Meet the newest member of our equine therapist herd - Big Mac! He sure is a big boy, standing at 15.3 hands and 1200 lbs. He's a calm, sturdy 15 year old bay mustang. How can you tell he's a mustang? Well, check out the left side of his neck! Big Mac has a freeze brand running below his mane on the left side of his neck. These brands are used to identify where and when a wild mustang was caught. Big Mac is a totally chill guy with experience as a trail horse with his owner, Amy. Thanks for sharing your beautiful boy with us Amy! Check out Big Mac while you're out at Hearts and Horses. He's on trial and will be exploring the Hearts and Horses life before entering classes.

Summer Teen Leadership Program
Do you know a horse-loving teen who would like to spend the summer at Hearts and Horses? Our Summer Teen Leadership Program pairs teenagers from the community with campers during Hearts and Horses Summer Camp. This is an excellent way for teens to spend some time during the summer with horses and awesome campers while getting great experience that carries over to future employment and, yes that's right, college applications! Contact Allie, our Summer Camp Coordinator at camps@heartsandhorses.org and get more information on our website.

Sowing Seeds of Love
 | |
"Sowing Group" from
Redeemer Lutheran Church
|
Four members of Redeemer Lutheran Church in South Fort Collins came out to Hearts and Horses on Feb. 27th to help with the winter seed sowing project that will grace the Sensory Trail gardens this spring. As part of their service day activities helping out the community, Lifelight Bible Study women chose to support Hearts and Horses by creating mini-greenhouses out of plastic bottles. Under the direction of Peg Stewart, they planted heirloom flower seeds that had been donated by The Winter Sowing Forum. They took the greenhouses home and will keep them on their outdoor patios until they germinate and then return to Hearts & Horses to plant the flowers in the spring. Participating were Donna Dunn, Nancy Johnson, Valerie Laab and Judy Hyfield-Starr (Tamara's mother). If anyone is interested in helping to plant the sensory garden in the spring/summer please contact Tamara at tamara@heartsandhorses.org.

Refrigerator Wanted!
We are in need of a "newer" refrigerator for our classroom/volunteer area. Though it still works to keep things cool, the door on our current refrigerator doesn't close all the way; nor is it frost free. If anyone has a no-frills fridge to donate, we would appreciate it!

Our Office Digs
In case you haven't noticed, Hearts and Horses staff have made themselves a new home in the red modular building! As our long-term plan has been in progress, we have found that Hearts and Horses staff and volunteers will benefit most from moving out of the old offices and welcome center, and we look forward to making the modular building our new home. Keep posted for more info as we work toward brighter and beautiful facilities!

New office cabinets from Tharp Cabinets
|
Thank You Tharp Cabinets!
A BIG thank you to Tharp Cabinets for their recent donation of multiple cabinets for our new office space in the modular. How wonderful it is to have a clean and organized work space! Tharp has been incredibly generous to Hearts and Horses over the years. We are grateful for their support!

King Soopers Cards
Want to financially support the amazing work of Hearts and Horses without spending a penny? Hearts and Horses is now registered through King Soopers to receive donations from your everyday grocery and gas purchases! It's really easy to get started and you'll be donating to Hearts and Horses with your every day purchases.
 | |
King Soopers card
|
- Pick up your King Soopers reloadable card from the Hearts and Horses office (or we can mail it to you).
- Load money onto your card. This is essentially the money you are using for groceries and gas anyway!
- Use your card whenever you purchase groceries or gas!
It's that simple! Whenever you use your card, King Soopers donates 5% of your total upload to Hearts and Horses so be sure to keep loading money on for gas and groceries each month. Get one for yourself, or pick up a couple more to give to friends and family! For more info contact: amy@heartsandhorses.org

Tell Us Your Story!
You may have noticed that we love to share heartwarming stories of our participants and volunteers as a result of their time spent at Hearts and Horses.
If you have a story you would like to share, click here. You can remain anonymous or not; the choice is yours. Either way, your stories will help others learn about the miracles that take place out here every day. Don't think you have to be a rider for your story to matter: volunteer, staff, and donor stories can be just as impactful.

Vote for Hearts and Horses TODAY...and Tomorrow...and...
Have you heard of Lexlin Gypsy Ranch? Lexlin Gypsy Ranch is holding an amazing contest right now, and we'd like all of our followers and community to participate! Beginning on Friday, February 14, 2014, and continuing through July 3rd 2014, Lexlin will begin taking nominations for PATH accredited centers interested in receiving a Gypsy Vanner Horse through Gypsy Gift™.
As nominations come in they are posted on LexLin Gypsy Ranch's fan page on Facebook for you to "like" and share to spread the word in support of your chosen center. There will be five centers selected on July 4th to receive horses. The top 4 nominated centers with the most fan "likes" and 1 center chosen by LexLin staff will be entered into a lottery drawing on July 4, 2014 to select a horse for their program.
Hearts and Horses has just been nominated and now appear on Lexlin's Facebook page to vote -- so start voting! We were a little late coming to the game, so we have about 235 votes to make up.
This is a Facebook contest -- you can vote once every 24 hours for the horse they would like to see donated and the center which they would like to see the horse go to.
---> Check out and "like" Lexlin Gypsy Ranch to start voting today! Don't forget to vote every 24 hours!
