Looking for Yearbooks

With the approach of the Davis High Centennial, the Media Center is attempting to complete its yearbook collection.  In order to do that, we currently need yearbooks from the following years:  1937, 1938, 1941, and 1996.  If you have books from any of these years and would like to donate them, please contact Jennifer Harward at (801) 402-8893 or by email.

Spring Ring
Davis High School will be hosting the
Utah "Spring Ring" on Saturday, March 9th.  The festival is a mass gathering of handbell choirs from schools, churches and communities across the state.  Participants will be under the direction of Cathy Moklebust, a renowned handbell clinician and composer.  The public is invited to a free concert in the Davis High School gymnasium on Saturday, March 9th at 5:00 PM.

Advanced Theatre . . .
Please join the Advanced Theatre class as they present their spring production of "Family Portrait." The show runs March 8-13 at 7:00pm in the DHS auditorium. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door.

"Family Portrait" elaborates in the terms of an ordinary family which acts and speaks as we do today. It's beautiful and dignified. It talks of the spirit of humility and tolerance. It is reverent in its approach to those whose personal lives were so closely bound up with that of the Founder of Christianity. A simple, eloquent and reverent picture of the family of Jesus. This had a successful run on Broadway in 1939.

We hope you can join us!

Patrons and Parents of Davis High School

We sincerely appreciate all of the support given to the many programs we have at Davis High.  We recently held the Sophomore Preview for all incoming Sophomores next year at Davis.  We had a tremendous crowd in attendance and many questions were answered plus the students got to see many of the opportunities that are afforded them here in their education experience.  We are excited to welcome the new group here and make them Darts.

We are now winding down a very busy winter season of activities and athletics.  Our students won region championships in Girls Basketball and Debate and the boy basketball team is currently participating in the state basketball tournament at Weber State University.  Just around the corner are spring sports and dances - and of course, graduation for this year's Seniors.  The Sadie Hawkins dance is in a week (it is a girls choice dance) and the Junior Prom is in April.  Just a quick reminder of the dress code for the  Junior Prom - dresses  must be no shorter than four inches above the knee and the tops must not be too revealing.  We ask that all young ladies in attendance comply with these requirements.  Sadies is casual attire dance but school standards for dress must still be complied with for entrance.

Also this spring is the very important AP testing in May and the CRT testing that begins in April and continues into the May time frame.  We would ask parents to help their children prepare for these tests by making sure that the students get a good night's sleep prior and that they have a good breakfast prior to coming to school for the test that day.  These exams are critical to both the students and the high school as we try to maintain our status as the top rated high school in Utah.  Passing the AP test means a savings of hundreds of dollars for tuition in college as the students enroll next year.

The coming year marks the Centennial for Davis High.  The graduating class of 2014 is the 100th class to come through the halls of DHS.  We are in preparation for those activities as we speak.  A committee has been created to help with the organization and preparation of the many things that will occur next year in celebration.  The school is also preparing a book to celebrate this very special occasion.  It will review all 100 years of the school's history and recognize special events that have occurred during Davis' rich and storied history.  The book will be for sale sometime in the August/September time frame this fall.  The cost is yet to be determined.  It will be a hard bound book of about 140 pages with  pictures and information about the Darts.  We welcome your participation in all of the activities and the upcoming book.

Again, we sincerely appreciate all that you do to make Davis High the special place that it is for both current students and alumni.  Remember, It Is A Great Day To Be A DART.

Tips for Prom Dresses . . .

Davis High Prom

April 20th, Capitol Rotunda

Prom is quickly approaching. Girls are starting to get asked and they are starting to worry about their dresses. It seems there are always a few girls who are extremely uncomfortable in their dresses or who other people are uncomfortable being around. I really don't think they plan it that way but, could you discuss a few things with your daughters so that they will be comfortable when they get to the dance and not spend the whole night tugging at things and having emergency sewing done on their dresses.

Girls typically go in a dressing room and look at themselves in a dress and fall in love with it. They forget to check for some possible problems with the dress. Please remind them to think of a few things.

1. Raise their arms as if they are dancing and make sure that it is not too tight, that everything stays covered and the slit is not too high when their arms are raised.

2. If the dress has a slit, have them sit in it and try going up stairs to see if that works.  Also, imagine them getting into and out of a car with a boy standing right there.

3. If the dress is short, please let them know that we go up a long flight of stairs to get into the Capitol and there are always a lot of people below. It is very sad when the dads there have to turn their backs when girls go up the stairs.

4. Make sure if they turn fast the dress stays put.

5. Please remember if the back is low or not there, the boys need a place to put their hands while they dance.

6. Every year we have seams that split when they bend or eat. Have them breathe deeply and sit down while wearing the dress.

7. Remember most boys are extremely uncomfortable when there isn't a place they feel safe touching while they are dancing.
