TVMA Participates in the Tennessee Health Joint Information Center

In collaboration with the Tennessee Department of Health, TVMA is participating along with other health-related professional associations in the Tennessee Health Joint Information Center initiative.  The goal of the THJIC is to develop and coordinate the dissemination of information to key audiences during emergencies, disasters, and infectious disease breakouts.  By forming the group now, plans can be made to help preserve life and property, reduce suffering and help with recovery efforts when it is needed.  We thank Drs. Randy Hammon of Chattanooga and Philip Gordon of Thompson's Station for representing TVMA on the THJIC.

Veterinarians and Suicide Study

Veterinarians are at an increased risk of suicide. The mental well-being of our veterinary community is of paramount importance to us all. To learn more about veterinarian experiences with psychological distress in Tennessee, the Tennessee Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and Auburn University are working together to survey veterinarians in our state.

You are cordially invited to complete this electronic survey by clicking on the link here. The survey takes only about 10
minutes to complete, and is voluntary and anonymous. Your responses will help inform key stakeholders about the mental health needs of veterinarians in Tennessee.

Thank you very much for helping us to learn more how we can better assist veterinarians in need in Tennessee.

McLaughlin Returns to TDA as Diagnostic Lab Director

Dr. Bruce McLaughlin has returned to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture as the new director of the Kord Animal Health Diagnostic Laboratory announced Agriculture Commissioner Julius Johnson.

McLaughlin was a veterinary pathologist at Kord from 2007 to 2012, spending several months in 2012 as acting director. He has 33 years of experience as a pathologist.

"The Kord diagnostic lab provides an invaluable service to livestock and pet owners through private veterinarians," Johnson said. "Dr. McLaughlin has the credentials and experience to help us provide the best service possible, and we are happy to have him.

In addition to being a veterinary pathologist, McLaughlin serves as an editor for the publications division of the American Veterinary Medical Association.

"I look forward to once again being a part of the great work being done at the Kord Diagnostic Lab," McLaughlin said. "One of my main priorities will be to ensure that customer service of the highest quality is provided to referring veterinarians and animal owners who utilize the laboratory."
