Reception for New TVMA Members

The TVMA Executive Board cordially invites all members who have joined TVMA since October 1, 2012, including active, academia, paraprofessionals, and allied members, to a reception on Thursday, February 27, 2014 from 5:00 pm-7:00 pm at the Embassy Suites Hotel Nashville SE/Murfreesboro.  It will be an opportunity to meet and visit with the TVMA Executive Board as well as a time for networking with your colleagues.  If you are registering for the MCVC, please indicate on the registration form if you plan to attend.  If you are not attending the MCVC, you may RSVP by contacting the TVMA office at 931-438-0070 or green.delo@gmail.com.

Comments Sought on Proposed Changes to Accreditation Standards

The AVMA Council on Education (COE) is proposing to revise two of its accreditation standards, dealing with students and curriculum. In accordance with its policies and procedures, the COE is seeking public comment on the proposed changes between now and Feb. 14, and we invite you to share your thoughts. To review the proposed changes and submit comments to the COE, visit the accreditation section of the AVMA website.

Cattle Veterinarians Develop Guide on Drug Oversight

A guide from the American Association of Bovine Practitioners is intended to help veterinarians ensure they establish proper oversight for drug use in cattle.  The AABP published in November 2013 the two-page guide on veterinarian-client-patient relationship practices that the organization endorses and that exceed regulatory requirements.  For example, the guide indicates veterinarians or veterinary practices should have written agreements that identify the veterinarian who is accountable for drug administration on a farm as well as who is responsible for duties such as drug inventory maintenance. UTCVM announces its 1st Annual Equine Podiatry Conference scheduled for March 8, 2014.  Keynote speakers include Chris Gregory, CJF, FWCF, and Raul J. U. S. Senate Passes Veterinary Medicine Mobility Bill

The Senate passed a key piece of legislation that impacts many veterinarians in the nation-the 

Veterinary Medicine Mobility Act (S. 1171). This commonsense legislation will allow veterinarians the ability to provide complete care to their animal patients beyond their clinics.  Read more... 

  

The Tennessee Cattlemen's Association and the Farm Animal Care Coalition of Tennessee will be hosting a series of producer education meetings. Guest speakers will be Troy and Stacy Hadrick, South Dakota cattle ranchers.  They will share information about how we can become more involved in advocating for agriculture.The meetings are scheduled for February 20 in Gray, February 21 in Sparta and February 22 in Nashville. All meetings will begin at 6:00 pm local time.  All Tennessee farmers/ag producers are invited to attend these free meetings to learn more about our role in advocating for agriculture.  A sponsored meal will be served.  To register, email info@tncattle.org or call 615-896-2333.

Pet Nutrition Alliance Offers Free Nutrition Tools for Veterinary Professionals

The Pet Nutrition Alliance (PNA), created by veterinary organizations including the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) , the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) and others, is providing nutritional tools for veterinary professionals through their website. Their purpose is to help raise awareness about the importance of proper pet nutrition, and the value of nutritional assessments for every pet, every time. USDA Soliciting Nominations for Veterinary Shortage Situations

USDA has posted a Federal Register Notice soliciting nominations for the Veterinary Medical Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP).  VMLRP will pay up to $25,000 each year towards qualified educational loans of eligible veterinarians who agree to serve in a NIFA designated veterinarian shortage situations for a period of three years.  Deadline for submitting nominations is March 10, 2014.  Read more...
