HONfest 2016

Grab your boas and tease that beehive! It's time for the 23rd Annual HONfest.

HONfest symbolizes all the charm and goodwill that lies within the hearts of those who live, work, and play in Bawlmer. "Hon" the Bawlmer term of endearment short for "Honey", embodies the warmth and affection bestowed upon our neighbors and visitors alike by the historic working women of Baltimore.

Since 1994, HONfest has grown from a tiny Baltimore's Best HON Pageant to a nationally recognized festival which covers four city blocks along West 36th Street in the Hampden neighborhood of Baltimore.
Last year 45,000 people attended !!

Francis Scott Key" Buoy is Set for 2016

The stars and stripes of the American flag decorate the Francis Scott Key buoy, which is now bobbing in the Patapsco River for the 2016 season.

It marks the spot where, 200 years ago, Key was inspired to pen a poem which became the national anthem.

The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter James Rankin from Baltimore, ceremoniously set the buoy on Tuesday to continue a tradition that dates back to 1914.

Surprise!   Sunsceens Often Don't Offer the Protection They Claim.

(CNN) Nearly half of sunscreen products
in the United Statesdo not live up to the SPF claim on their bottles, according to a new study.
Researchers at Consumer Reports independently evaluated the Sun Protection Factor value of 65 sunscreen products -- including lotions, sprays and sticks -- and found that 43% of them had less SPF than the label promised. Any reduction would block fewer UVB rays from sunlight, which can cause sunburn and skin cancer.

Your Help Is Needed - Fight the EPA's Misguided Push For E-15 Fuel

The Environmental Protection Agency opened the public comment period on its proposal to increase biofuels in the 2017 fuel supply, a move that would increase the amount of ethanol in the fuel supply and prompt more pumps selling fuel with 15 percent ethanol, or E15.

The EPA's newest proposal increases the need for higher blends of ethanol to record levels in 2017, pushing further past the E10 blend wall, according to critics of the proposal. The blend wall is the term used for the maximum amount of ethanol in fuel that all engines can tolerate - which is E10, or 10 percent ethanol.

E-15 WILL DAMAGE YOUR ENGINE & VOID YOUR WARRANTEE

"The proposal would increase the amount of E15 that must be sold next year [by at least 700 million gallons], putting countless Americans at risk of misfueling with a prohibited fuel," the National Marine Manufacturers Association said.

The EPA has slowed the increase of ethanol in the overall fuel supply in previous years from the requirements set forth in the 2007 Renewable Fuel Standard, but continues to set increases the law requires.
