Happy 4th of July !!
This year enjoy the Fourth of July with live music and celebratory fireworks at Baltimore's Inner Harbor. The 2015 Fourth of July Celebration takes place this Saturday from 7pm to 10pm. Live music from the popular United States Navy Band Cruisers begins at 7pm at the Inner Harbor Amphitheater, located at Pratt and Light streets. The fireworks show, choreographed to festive music, begins at 9:30pm. NOTE: Marine traffic in the harbor will stop at 8:00.
The display is produced by Pyrotecnico and can be viewed from the water, locations in downtown and Federal Hill, Fell's Point and Harbor East. Support for Baltimore's Fourth of July Celebration is provided by GEICO and Fox 45.

Operation Dry Water is Underway !
The US Coast Guard and local marine police are going to be extra diligent this summer season to keep mariners safe.
Nationwide, enforcement efforts are aimed to detect impaired boat operators in conjunction with the national "Operation Dry Water" campaign. Last year some
67 percent of boating accidents that resulted in fatalities were alcohol-related.
Boat operators found in violation of the law can face huge fines and even impoundment. Nationally, thousands of local, state and federal marine law enforcement officers will be highly visible on the water as they conduct spot safety checks and enforce BUI (boating under the influence) regulations.
Remember:
1. Assign a "designated captain" to soberly pilot your boat.
2. Check your Running Lights before you leave. (see below)
3. Go slow, and practice defensive navigating.
4. Check the date on your flares.
5. It's illegal to run at night with a spotlight (or docking / fishing lights) constantly on, where another boater may be affected. Additionally, they must not obscure your running lights.
6. Check the tides before you go out.
|
Boating at Night - Check Your Running Lights
If you are planning to stay out after sunset, it's time to check your running lights. See the picture below to see what your light configuration should be.
Be aware that night time navigation gets more complicated when you add tugboats, barges and other commercial vessels into the mix.
See Page 15 of the MD State Boaters Guide..... HERESee also the...
The Coast Guard Rules
Remember that a sailboat under power IS a powerboat and must display a steaming light forward on the mast.

Baltimore's Washington Monument
Reopens this Weekend !
The Baltimore Washington Monument will reopen this weekend after a year and a half of restorations - and you'll be able to climb to the top.
In honor of the monument's 200th birthday and the Fourth of July, visitors can check it out for free for a short time. Be prepared though, and wear comfortable shoes - it's 227 steps to the top!
As the country's first real monument to George Washington, visitors can climb the steps and look at Baltimore from a different perspective.

The patriotic celebration includes the official re-dedication of the monument and ribbon cutting at 10:45am on the 600 Block of N. Charles Street. Immediately following will be a festival celebration featuring family-fun, hands-on crafts, old-fashioned games and contests, live music, picnic-style food concessions and activities throughout the neighborhood's businesses and cultural institutions.
