McCourt School News

Welcome Katrina Randolph, Assistant Director of Employer Relations:  The McCourt School is pleased to welcome Katrina Randolph as our new Assistant Director of Employer Relations.  Katrina has extensive experience in career services and has worked at the University of Maryland, California State University, Long Beach, and the Price School of Public Policy at the University of Southern California.  She also has a Masters in Educational Counseling from USC. Katrina's office is in Old North 105.

 

Alumni Board Update: Don't forget to cast your vote for the 2015-2016 McCourt School Alumni Board! The online election polls are scheduled to open on Monday, November 17, and will be open for five business days. Keep an eye out for an email to alumni with all the details.  Many thanks to members of the 2013-2014 Alumni Board for their service: Erik Brine, Rosemarie Clouston, Julia Druhan, Jason Fichtner, Dan Hoople (Fundraising Chair), Julia Lyskawa (Secretary/Treasurer), Karen Lynch (Chair), Joanna Mikulski, Geoffrey Okamoto, Michelle Scarborough, Sara Sills, Rose Tutera (Vice Chair).

 

Save the Date- McCourt Holiday Party: The McCourt School Annual Holiday Party will take place on Friday, December 5th from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Harbin Patio on Georgetown's main campus. Come back to the Hilltop and see us! Please RSVP here.

 

McCourt School Welcomes New Faculty: The McCourt School is thrilled to welcome two new faculty members. George Akerlof, Nobel Laureate in economics and one of the most gifted economists of our day, joined our distinguished faculty this fall. Jane Hannaway, an organizational sociologist and innovator in the use of longitudinal data to evaluate educational policy, will join our faculty in spring, 2015.

 

Baker Center for Leadership & Governance: The McCourt School is proud to announce a gift of $10 million from Georgetown alumnus Jon Baker (C'64) to create the Baker Center for Leadership & Governance . The Baker Center will be a premier nonpartisan center devoted to respectful dialogue at Georgetown.

 

LEAD Conference: Last month we convened world-class scholars and experts in the energy and environment sector for our third annual LEAD (Leadership, Evidence, Analysis and Debate) Conference. Led by a keynote address from U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy, our 2014 event The Power of Opinion: How Americans' Preferences on Energy Point a Way Forward on Climate Change, examined how American public opinion may hold the key to unlocking a politically viable path forward on energy policy and climate change.

 

Annual Networking Night: In October, the Alumni Board and the McCourt School hosted the 8th Annual Alumni-Student Networking Night at Old North. We had roughly 180 participants, including about 50 alums!

 

GPPReview Call for Papers: The Georgetown Public Policy Review is now in its twentieth year and we are currently soliciting submissions for our spring edition. Submissions may focus on any topic of national or international affairs that is related to policy analysis. Papers that bridge the divide between theory and practice, and that utilize data analysis and quantitative methods, are encouraged. We seek papers from a wide range of sources: academics, practitioners, students, and alumni. GPPR welcomes submissions, including articles and commentaries, on a rolling basis until December 15, 2014. More information can be found here.

 

Presidential Management Program 2015: The Presidential Management Fellowship Program (www.pmf.org) application process has begun. If you have applied for the program as an alum please let us know! McCourt is committed to supporting alumni applicants through the process through programming, workshops and other events.
