B/S/H/ rolled out the Kosher carpet for Rochelle Kalisch, CKD, and owner of Regency Designs here in New York on February 15 at the B/S/H/ Experience and Design Center for her program Kosher Kitchens Part II: the Passover Kitchen. Addressing a packed room, Rochelle provided a refresher (from her course 2 years ago) on Kosher dietary laws and how to design and prepare a Kosher Kitchen for daily use. Building on the theme, she delineated the differences between "daily use" and "Passover use," a sub-set of Kosher guidelines reserved for only one week per year! Of course the devil is in the details and prepping or "Kashering" your kitchen for Passover turns out to be a complicated and time-consuming enterprise. When in doubt seek out a Rabbi's advice. Case in point: marbles, certain granites, certain sealants and glass-for work surfaces-are considered too porous and cannot be Kashered for Passover! Alternative options and suggestions were provided, followed by a lively Q&A that helped everyone frame the context of these ancient rituals. Douglas Stonecipher, B/S/H/ Experience and Design Center Manager, arranged for both Kosher and non-Kosher edibles to sate the crowd during the cocktail hour, warmly welcoming attendees and reminding them that his firm's appliances provide both Shabbat and Yom Tov (holiday) settings.

FROM THE PRESIDENT
Spring is just around the corner and we're all looking forward to new showrooms and events that are coming for the new year.
This month we held our first program of the year. Rochelle Kalisch, principal designer from Regency Designs & Interiors, Inc. was back again for part two of her presentation in designing kosher kitchens. Attendees earned .1 CEU for this program. Rochelle shared the basics in how to design a brand new kosher kitchen as well as practical tips for what to do when your current kitchen doesn't meet the kosher requirements. Thanks, Rochelle for an informative discussion.
Next month, the much anticipated new Hafele showroom opens at its new location on West 22nd Street. Stay tuned for more information.
Don't forget next month is the sixteenth annual Architectural Digest Design Show from March 16 to 19 at Piers 92 and 94. The show opens to the trade on Thursday, March 16, and is not to be missed. Mark your calendars and hope to see you there!
