"MICRO LIVING AND THE EVOLUTION OF
MULTIFUNCTIONAL SPACE"
September 15th
presented by RICHELIEU * hosted By AKDO

NKBA Manhattan members crossed the border on Thursday, September 15th, into Canadian territory for Richelieu Hardware's presentation on Micro Living.  The audience learned how to build flexibility into fewer square feet with optional partitions, pre-built and purpose furnished interiors as well as how to use a building's common space as an extension of private space.               Francoise Dion, National Manager-Specifications for Richelieu, joined us from Quebec to make the presentation.  Attendees sampled Canadian beer and fare with a nod to the local culture, including bacon canapes and warm, maple walnut tarts.  Gift certificates, maple-product sampler baskets and Rev-a-Shelf inserts were raffled to the delight of the 11 winners!
NKBA Manhattan Auxiliary Board member and Richelieu Specification Representative Benoit Laroche was responsible for all the hinges, knobs and levers (as well as the terrific product displays) that made the evening possible.
And a big shout-out to  our friends at AKDO Tile for providing the snowy, Canadian white location at their new showroom at 22 West 21st Street in Manhattan's fashionable Flatiron district!
Diane Hayden, Showroom Manager and Kate Sterling, Creative Director, strapped on their snowshoes and met us more than halfway, making this a terrific kick-off event for the fall season.

Manhattan chapter members join Irving Johnson, GROHE trainer, second from left and Gray Uhl, Brand Education Director, DXV & American Standard, far right.

Day of Design Inspiration
September 28th * hosted by NKBA Manhattan Sponsor GROHE

Our NKBA day of learning began with breakfast at the GROHE LIVE! Center and an informative and engaging presentation and showroom tour given by Grohe trainer Irving Johnson, featured above with attendees. Members were then bussed by motor coach to the American Standard and DXV R&D facility in New Jersey, where the day continued with lunch, a facility tour (that included hands-on demonstrations of the function of that all important sanitary fixture, the toilet), and a .2 CEU program on luxury bath design given by Gray Uhl. The day concluded with a cocktail reception at the DXV 20th Street showroom.

FROM THE PRESIDENT

It's Autumn once again in the city. So what's new? Designers found out last week at the eighth annual "What's New What's Next?" event held at The New York Design Center. Over 125 designers were on hand participating in more than 30 panel discussions to share their knowledge and challenges with the visiting audience. Designers Amy Lau, Thomas O'Brien and Mario Buatta were among those included, as well as NKBA Manhattan Board member Dave Burcher, CKD, who joined a kitchen panel discussion and represented In House Kitchen Bath Home. I hope you were there to check out the exciting gathering of designers and talent at this forum. A good time was had by all.

This month we are also excited to announce the launch our new Student Corner with this newsletter publication. We fully support and encourage our design students; they are the next generation of kitchen and bath designers. Towards this end we will share interesting news, events and activities for them in the newsletter. We invite our student readers to check in every month for news created just for them.

Next month is our annual membership drive! We are excited to welcome new members to the organization. Vendor trips, networking events,
professional certifications, educational courses,
consumer leads, member discounts, marketing tools, job listings and leadership opportunities are just a few of the reasons to become a member of the National Kitchen & Bath Association.

If you know someone who has an interest in joining the NKBA, please direct them to our website, nkbamanhattan.org, and click on "membership application." They'll be glad they did!
