FROM OUR PRESIDENT

This month we honor the women who gave us life and we honor the fallen soldiers who protected the precious lives we live. NYC will also honor the design trade in a big and fabulous way with events planned throughout the month. Here's a brief rundown of events past and events still to come for the month of May:

On May 5th we celebrated the Grand Opening of the Fisher & Paykel Experience Center in the A&D Building. The showroom was packed with attendees excited about this new showcase of products. Everyone mixed and mingled, sipped cocktails and tested the appliances on display. Paula Smith, showroom manager, was the gracious host as she welcomed us all for the festivities. A really fun time.
NYCXDesign runs from May 5th - 17th. One of the featured events is the Design Showroom Cocktail Crawl on May 11th, which offers a chance to visit eleven kitchen and bath showrooms in the Flatiron District in one evening. Showrooms were elbow to elbow with designers and architects on a perfect spring night. Those who visited at least seven of the showrooms were entered to win a special AmEx prize!
Also be sure to note May 12th - June 9th as you won't want to miss The Kips Bay Decorator Show House. It promises to again delight the trade with its showcase of rooms designed by some of our industry's most talented designers. Every room is sure to contain a design element you've not seen before.
The Manhattan Chapter will host its highly anticipated, Kips Bay Breakfast, generously sponsored by MIELE at the decorator show house on May 17th. Attendees will have breakfast, then tour the house. If you have a ticket bravo! This event is Sold Out as of this writing with 100 registered attendees.
Another great event: The International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF) runs at the Jacob Javits Center from May 14th through May 17th. ICFF is the North American platform for global design. Architects, interior designers and developers looking for inspiration, new concepts and exciting product flock to ICFF to discover the best in contemporary interior design. This year there are more than 700 exhibitors. Be there! Also highly anticipated and again sold out: the opening party at the Museum of Modern Art on Saturday May 14th.  The Porcelanosa showroom will host its own ICFF reception May 16th.
This year's Dwell on Design teams up with Designjunction during
NYCXDESIGN
. From May 13th to 15th Designjunction + Dwell on Design will display 20 top design brands and host a
three-day exhibition and conference, comprised of one trade day and two consumer days. Visit Artbeam, 540 W. 21st St.
Finally, Pirch, the innovative retailer that specializes in fixtures and appliances for the kitchen, bath and outdoors is slated to open its SoHo showroom on May 21st. This award-winning retailer is a true experience center with 18 fully interactive kitchen vignettes and 15 bath vignettes.  Have fun!
