The .2 CEU program was hosted by Grande Central Showrooms of NY's President, Howard Frankel, and attended by a broad spectrum of our members who filled the room and even sat on the stairs to the lower level event space!
P. Davis Ayres, President of AYRE Lighting Group, introduced the presentation by Mark Parris and Bob Pandorf who lit up the room with an insightful and informative talk and Q&A. After a lively and abundant cocktail hour, an enormous box of chocolates were on offer along with coffee and a drawing for an AYRE bathroom light fixture. The lucky winner was John Tudisco!

FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Stepping out into this bustling city of ours, we know that as busy as we are, it is time to stop and smell the roses. Tulips, magnolias and the cherry blossom trees in Central Park are already in bloom.
Weather-wise, March did go out like a lamb and marched us into Spring with a great three-day showcase at this year's Architectural Digest Home Design Show. It's always fascinating to walk around this show and see the new product trends. The best and brightest were on display with their kitchen cabinetry, surface, bath, lighting and interior design. The appliance companies showed off their newest sleek models with seamless integration and were on hand to advise on what the well-heeled kitchen should be wearing this year. Of particular note are the woodworkers who show off their handmade furniture in designs you've never seen before. If you are a true fan of unique art and you're looking for that one showstopper centerpiece for your home, this is the place to go shopping.
Interactive panel discussions were held throughout the three-day event. Both designers and consumers alike found out what's hot and what's new in the world of furniture, kitchen renovation and design and hotel hospitality. One of the best discussions focused on the creature comforts that people are taking away from their hotel experiences, and wanting those same features back in their homes. This was particularly relevant for me as I have a client who recently traveled on vacation and came back convinced that their new bathroom must have body sprays to enhance their shower experience. DIFFA's annual Dining by Design moved the crowd over to Pier 92. A must-see showcase for creative talent at the table, it knocked our socks off with some surprising design.
On the horizon are some exciting events that offer so much inspiration and information for the design community. This month several events will delight us again: the High Point Market and the Housing Works Design on a Dime Benefit at the Metropolitan Pavilion.
Exciting new showrooms for designers and the public are also in store-SICIS, the decorative mosaic tile company, will be opening soon on 5th Avenue. Fisher & Paykel and Pirch are planning their grand openings next month. The Hafele showroom will be moving soon to its new location. Be sure to attend these openings when announced. Go out and explore the new spaces that have been designed just for you. It's a great time to be a designer in the city. Enjoy!
