FROM OUR PRESIDENT

Our hearts and minds are ready for the warmth and breezes of Spring!
With this season comes the hopes of many a client to renew their living spaces and breathe new life into their humble abodes. The height of renovation season is underway! Let's look at what's ahead in kitchen and bath design trends.
Similar to our political landscape, we are seeing a movement towards bold design and a challenge to the traditional. Requests for big, bold and beautiful geometric tile for floors and walls to create a commanding focal point have increased. The mixing of metals to create interest and surprise are on the rise. Interest in matte black finishes on fixtures challenges the traditional polished chrome, while wood textures and bold color on ceilings add a heightened sense of interest for what is overhead. In addition to reclaimed wood texture on walls, more creative and unusual 3D texture on walls competes for attention.
As we continue to use technology in our daily interactions, we also want it to make our living spaces easier to manage as well. Our clients are "seeing the light" as they seek out whole-house lighting solutions. We're noticing requests for lighting options that can be remotely-controlled from smartphones. Hidden docking stations and electrical outlets with USB ports throughout the house are in demand. Electric bidet seats are becoming more commonplace, including those with built-in night lights.
This month, our chapter event, "Turn On the Light," focuses
on lighting design to address your lighting concerns. We hope that you will join us for an informative presentation.
For the heart of the home, a desire to grow produce in one's own kitchen is impacting design to result in cabinetry that incorporates storage bins for herb and vegetable seeds as well as pull-out chopping boards.
Appliances, too, are taking on a renewed twist. Stainless steel is still "king" as a neutral that works well with most kitchen interiors, but sleek white appliances are beginning to emerge again. Some folks are going even further with bold stoves in a red finish. And colorful, detachable handles on pots and pans are leaving the blandness of plain stainless-steel cookery behind.
So let us go bold and bright into this Spring season. See you out there on the renovation trail!
