NKBA MANHATTAN CHAPTER AND THE KITCHEN OF TOMORROW
On November 18th, the Manhattan Chapter presented the 2015 Symposium-Eating * Living * Building: Designing the Kitchen of Tomorrow. Nearly 100 people gathered at the Hafele NYC showroom for the 0.4 CEU program. Speakers included: trend expert Leeann Lavin, who explored the present and future of food and eating; Ray Kinoshita Mann, Associate Profession at The University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Architecture, who presented a portrait of tomorrow's kitchen from a sociological perspective; and Joseph Wheeler, Associate Professor at Virginia Tech School of Architecture and Design, who discussed environmental and sustainable architecture and the implementation of advanced design theory and ideas. Following each speaker's presentation, former National NKBA President John Morgan moderated a panel discussion. A big thanks to John Risch, Hafele NY Showroom Marketing Manager, for hosting the delicious luncheon and very successful event. Stay tuned to this newsletter for details regarding a future symposium on the bath.

HOLIDAY PARTY 2015!
Nearly 200 merry-makers packed the B/S/H/ Experience & Design Center on December 10th for our chapter's annual holiday fete. NKBA Manhattan joined with IFDA New York and IDS New York to raise a glass to 2015 as multiple Millennial Santas, and their reindeer counterparts, passed hors d'oeuvres prepared by chefs on Thermador appliances in the state-of-the-art showroom. Guests enjoyed catching up with colleagues and hand-painting holiday cookies. Capping a perfect event: Generous raffle prizes for guests as well as donations from guests of food and pet products to RockCANRoll, to help New York City's neediest. B/S/H/'s Lillian O'Bourke and Showroom Manager Douglas Stonecipher produced an outstanding evening that will be remembered well into 2016!

MEET OUR NEW PRESIDENT RENEE RIDDICK
New NKBA Manhattan President-Elect Renee Riddick gets the "bell" from President Kent Brasloff at the December Board meeting.
Our chapter's new president, Renee Riddick, brings with her a wealth of experience in business and design. A former CPA, Renee holds a bachelor's degree in accounting and worked as an audit manager leading audit teams, traveling the world, from China and Russia, to Europe and the United Kingdom as well as Turkey and the Dominican Republic. The architecture and interiors she saw on her travels ignited her creative interests, and inspired her to eventually switch careers. After earning an associate's degree in interior design and her real estate license, Renee went on to work in the interior design studio of Armani/Casa by Giorgio Armani as well as in sales at West Elm and Pier 1. A seasoned professional in the kitchen and bath industry, Renee has experience in sales, design and project management. Currently an interior designer for KBR Design and Build, a premier NYC design/build firm that specializes in high-end residential and commercial renovations, Renee works closely with architects, tradespeople and clients. Her skills as a trained, experienced professional and her proven ability to build and nurture relationships throughout the design community will enhance the Manhattan Chapter of the NKBA, which warmly welcomes Renee as its new president.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT
Great to see everyone December 10th at our NKBA/IDS/IFDA co-located Holiday Party graciously hosted by Thermador at the B/S/H/ Experience & Design Center. A big shout out to Thermador's Douglas Stonecipher for producing the party of all parties. Terrific to catch up on industry news and congratulate raffle winners: Alex Geana, Benjamin Huntington and Catarine Wright. Special thanks, too, to Naula Studios, Cosentino and Axor for supplying truly first class prizes; and thanks to IDS's Julie Schuster for organizing gift bags. In addition, you should know your generosity provided RockCANRoll with 137 food and pet items for our needier New Yorkers. Bravo, Team NKBA!
If you weren't able to attend, and I didn't get to wish you a Happy Festivus (or other observance), I look forward to more good events together in the new year.
And speaking of new year, with the close of this one I step down as president of the Manhattan Chapter. Certainly it's with mixed emotion as I look back on three years of struggle, growth and achievement, which put us back on the map as THE industry organization to be associated with.
Of course, I wasn't alone...programs like our chapter's recent Eating * Living * Building: Designing the Kitchen of Tomorrow, the Kips Bay Breakfast, our vendor excursion to Monogram HQ in Louisville, Kentucky, as well as many other events and meetings all took dedication and hard work by the many, not the few. The membership of this chapter is fortunate to have Barbara Roth, Briana Ryan, Charlotte Barnard, Dave Burcher, Joan Gibbs, Mark Rosenhaus, Marsha Kahn, Renee Riddick, and Toni Sabatino leading the charge for industry excellence, along with our very able Auxiliary Board, our Emeritae Ester Kloc and Florence Perchuk, advisors like Dawn DeLuca, Jan MacLatchie and John Risch, the Boards of IDS and IFDA, and our sponsors Grohe, Thermador, and, as of January, Legrand Lighting, without whom none of this would be possible. Please thank them when you have the chance. They are the real stars of the show!
My next Board role, lest you think I'm disappearing, will be multi-fold: I assume responsibility as both Sponsorship and Officer Nominations Chair and will strive to deliver special projects that bring YOU the best the industry has to offer, both in design and in education.
I leave you in excellent hands. Renee Riddick, our current Chapter Secretary, takes over as Chapter President as of January 1st. Please make her feel as welcomed and as valued as you have me!
