MADAM PRESIDENT
in the house!
From left: Maria Stapperfenne, CMKBD, NKBA National President; Kent Brasloff, Manhattan Chapter President; Chef Tageré Southwell, Executive Chef of the Monogram Design Center NYC
Our Manhattan Chapter welcomed NKBA National President Maria Stapperfenne and CEO Bill Darcy to the October meeting held at the Monogram Design Center in the A&D Building on October 29th. Carlos Salguero, Monogram Sales Associate, greeted members and guests with wine and soft drinks while Tageré Southwell, Monogram Executive Chef, prepared a delicious and healthy meal that included salmon, salads, cheeses and an amazing gluten free bread prepared on the Monogram induction cooktop. After the meal and some networking, 2015 National President Maria Stapperfenne engaged members with an informative and interactive .2 CEU program on communication styles entitled, "Better Communication through LISTENING!" The audience was challenged with a test to determine their own style and had a few laughs as the results were reported. Attendees left the meeting with a greater understanding of how to identify and manage different personalities to improve the selling experience, as well as swag bags from Monogram.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT
As the season for everything pumpkin crescendos, from pumpkin-spiced lattes to pumpkin tortilla chips, and yellow and red leaves billow out from the street corners, I can't help but review the closing year with a sense of satisfaction. NKBA Manhattan has provided a cornucopia of comradery, education, travel and fun to all who participated: from the latest design and technological finds at KBIS to our intensive weekend with Monogram in Louisville to learning about Kosher Kitchen design to partying under the summer stars with Grohe. Our Board harvested the best in kitchen, bath and hardware for our membership, and they have planted the seeds of future success by creating a leadership succession plan and carving out programs unique to our niche.
But 2015 isn't quite over yet...
I hope you've signed on for our November 18th blockbuster .4 CEU program: "Eating, Living & Building: Designing the Kitchen of Tomorrow." Hosted by Häfele, seats will be limited for this symposium featuring Ray Mann, Associate Professor at The University of Massachusetts Amherst Department of Architecture, and Joseph Wheeler, Associate Professor at Virginia Tech School of Architecture and Design and mastermind of Lumenhaus, as well as journalist and cookbook author Leeann Lavin. The day will focus on the sociological and practical methods that will drive both food production and kitchen design in the 21st century, concluding with a panel discussion moderated by NKBA National Past President John Morgan. You won't want to miss this!
Our October program featured 2015 National President Maria Stapperfenne, CMKBD Certified Master Kitchen & Bath Designer, who joined us in the Monogram Design Center for her presentation, Better Communication Through Listening. Members learned strategies for keeping the client on track and for clarifying their wants and needs. Susan Cozzi, MDC Showroom Manager and Executive Chef Tageré Southwell, along with sales associate Carlos Salguero, made sure we were comfortable and well fed. National CEO Bill Darcy also attended and even participated in the program!
Be sure to save December 10th for our annual holiday social sponsored by Thermador. See you there!!
Kent Brasloff
