EVENING AT AXOR

From left: Kent Brasloff, Manhattan Chapter President; Michael Reiman, International Projects Consultant,  Hansgrohe; Renée Riddick, President-Elect

Designers and architects gathered at the Axor NYC Design Studio in Manhattan's Meatpacking District on September 30th to attend a CEU event, "What your Plumber Wishes You Knew." Participants were treated to an informative and insightful discussion about the different types and styles of faucet and shower fixtures and the various components that make them work. Speaker Michael Reiman, International Projects Consultant for Hansgrohe North America, took the audience from the basics of lavatory faucet configurations to a detailed discussion on diverters, pressure balance valve systems and thermostatic valves. Attendees gained a better understanding of the features that tub and shower fixtures share and how those features function to control and enhance the shower experience.

Michael shared information on the latest hand showers, body sprays and design configurations. He also explained various safety and comfort factors that come into play in design, such as why hand showers are made from lighter metals (so that they will not be too hot or heavy to hold).

An extensive question and answer session followed the presentation, during which participants shared their own experiences and challenges in designing bathrooms and kitchens for their clients. Guests then toured the showroom and its vignettes, to interact with product, and to mingle with colleagues while enjoying refreshments. A hearty thanks to the team at Axor Hansgrohe for making this chapter meeting one of the best of the year.

         "Better Communication through LISTENING!"
Presented by Maria Stapperfenne, CMKBD - 2015 NKBA President
October 29, Monogram Design Center
150 East 58th Street, 10th fl, NYC

Do you work hard to keep a design or construction project on track, only to find yourself frequently caught up in problems caused by poor communication? Is talking through the situation only making things worse?  Would you like to avoid future misunderstandings? How about hear what others are actually trying to tell you? Take a moment to listen, really listen, to your customers, your co-workers, your vendors, etc. Discover your own communication style, its strengths and weaknesses, as well as how to identify others' styles for more effective communication, and ultimately add to your bottom line. In this lively interactive session, Maria will introduce a variety of communication styles to help you determine which is yours, and how to modify it to meet the needs of others. You'll practice using real world examples.  As an added bonus, everyone will take away an emergency toolkit of phrases to help in stressful situations!

This is a 0.2 NKBA CEU program

FROM OUR PRESIDENT

#NKBAWORKWITHAPRO! Now there's a hashtag to kick off National Kitchen and Bath month!! Consider using it when you tweet as a handy tag or as an e-signature this month, i.e., Whose ready to renovate? #NKBAWORKWITHAPRO. Imagine THAT going out across the e-waves to vendors and end-users 5000 times a week for the next month. Powerful? You bet. Consistent with who we are? No doubt!
So here's the challenge: would each of you commit to getting the word out once a week on social media, until Halloween? As Madonna might have said, had she been a kitchen and bath designer, "You can do it, let's get to it! Post, Post, Post!!"
And if you're one of our more social media savvy members, you might want to check out National's style-spotter contest taking place on Pinterest at #NKBASTYLESPOTTER. The contest winner will receive an all-expense paid trip to KBIS 2016!
October is also Manhattan Chapter Membership Drive month. Join today and get 14 months for the price of 12! If you need more incentive than FREE chapter events, a summer and winter party, an all-expense paid vendor excursion, the Kips Bay Breakfast, certification courses, networking, tools to manage your business and so much more, I'd love to know what that is? Please contact our VP Membership at toni@tonisabatinostyle.com  to join now!
I hope you were in the crowd at Axor on September 30th for What Your Plumber Wants You to Know? Thanks to Michael Reiman, International Projects Consultant at Hansgrohe North America, we flushed out the salient points!
Our October 29th program will be one of the highlights of the year when National President, Maria Stapperfenne joins us in the Monogram Design Center for a 0.2 CEU event, Better Communications Through Listening. Don't miss it!
Finally, RUN don't walk to sign up for our blockbuster 0.4 CEU program on November 18th: Eating, Living, Building: the Kitchen of Tomorrow being hosted by Hafele. Seats will be limited!
