MAY BREAKFAST AT KIPS BAY
Chapter members gathered on May 20th when Dacor Appliances and the Hearst Design Group graciously hosted a breakfast at the 2015 Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club Decorator Show House. Attendees lingered in the state-of-the-art kitchen, appointed with the latest Dacor appliances and a Burberry-inspired backsplash by AKDO. Guests enjoyed the run of the Arthur Sachs Mansion at 58 East 66th St. Each room, as well as several outdoor terraces were decorated by different interior designers.
For additional information on the show house, the designers and the products used, please visit www.kipsbaydecoratorshowhouse.org www.dacor.com www.hearstdesigngroup.com

BUSINESS ETIQUETTE
A BEST PRACTICE FROM JOAN GIBBS
|
 |
We often think thank you notes are for when we've completed a project with our client; but there are times during the project when sending, especially, a handwritten note, can enhance the relationship and make good business sense.
I make it a practice to send these communications:
Early in the Project -- When you and the client have agreed on the scope of the project. The note could say, thank you, and include business cards, with a request for referrals.
When the Project actually starts - Furnishings and materials start coming in and your client could become anxious about the outcome. It could be a good time to say thank you, remind the client of how wonderful the end result will be and can also assure them you'll be there to manage the project through to the end.
Don't wait until the very end to send the thank you - it can have a finality to it - and what we really want are clients for life, with ongoing projects. A handwritten note puts your personal stamp on it.

FROM OUR PRESIDENT
One of my favorite moments on the NKBA calendar, and a benefit of membership, is the annual invitation to attend The Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club Decorator Show House Breakfast. Graciously hosted by Charles J. Huebner, CEO, and Karol Becker, Senior VP Sales, for Dacor Appliances and Meaghan Trimarchi of the Hearst Design Group at the Arthur Sachs Mansion on East 66th Street, attendees lined up as early as 8:30 for the 9:00 a.m. admission. A few of the highlights included the house's stunning elliptical stair hall and the enormous ground-floor kitchen designed by Christopher Peacock who incorporated mosaic tile from AKDO and counter surfaces from Cosentino, as well as the latest Dacor appliances, which included two refrigerator/freezers. Bathrooms of note featured Gail Green's Keith Haring-inspired powder room and Charles Pavarini's sexy full bath adjacent to his "lounge" where 10 pounds of eye shadow had been ground into the paint to achieve the perfect shade of blue! Congratulations to all who made this unique event possible.
For our June program, hosted by chapter sponsor Thermador, we look forward to welcoming Rochelle Kalisch, CKD and owner of Regency Designs & Interiors. Speaking on design for kosher kitchens, Rochelle will talk to us about the demographics of this niche market, appropriate materials, religious observance of food groups and best-case scenarios in limited spaces. A kosher buffet will be provided along with one of our fun raffles. Program your electronic device for June 24th!
With summer about to begin, we're also thinking "Summer Social." This year's event will take place on July 23rd hosted by our newest chapter sponsor, Grohe. Once again we'll partner with our friends at IFDA to make this a night to remember...under the stars.
We'll be taking our annual break in August, but you can look forward to more great programs in the fall, including one on shower enclosures and our blowout .04 CEU kitchen event in November.
