A Ministry Initiative of Church Doctor Ministries

We're pleased to present you the November 2014 update on our
10-month adventure for Christian young adults! The application deadline for the January - October 2015 session is December 15, 2014. Please contact us right away if you are interested.
The International Mission Excursion
The international mission excursion experience is the capstone of each young adult's SEND adventure. SEND young adults participate in a mission experience for two weeks to the poorest of the poor. This is a cross-cultural experience, as a group, to Central America or an area of the Caribbean. Young adults are never the same after this excursion.

Read what SEND graduates have to say about their excursion to Honduras.

"I was blown away at what my spiritual eyes saw. I saw people who valued relationship so much they didn't care that I was speaking English and they spoke Spanish. I saw people and children who didn't have much to give but gave what they had, I saw God in all His glory working in the people of Siguatepeque. I also saw parents who had jobs but even with what they made they still couldn't afford to feed their children, I saw children who just wanted affirmation; who were so desperate for praise and affection that they fought for it from us. I saw men and women who had gone through hell and came back with a passion to bring those still suffering out."

"In Honduras we visited three children's homes and one elderly home and in progressing order each children's home impacted me more than the last. When we were down there God showed me a sincere, pure, free love that went beyond the head."

"We went to 2 orphanages. I liked seeing the children and interacting with them. I painted faces and put on fake tattoos. One little 8 year old girl named Mighty didn't like the french braid I put in my hair so she pulled it out and redid it for me. We went to a rehab similar to Teen Challenge. We went to a day care too. A little girl there kept calling me mom and was real attached to me. That was the hard one to leave. We went to a nursing home and spent time with the people there too. We went several thousand feet up in the mountains to reach most of these places."

We are excited to see what God has in store for our young adults journeying to Belize, September 21 - October 2, 2015!
Light Up the Darkness
Does your family have the tradition of hanging Christmas lights the day after Thanksgiving? Here in the colder states, it's a necessity to hang them as early as possible! The only alternative, if you wait until later in December, is frozen fingers and potential hypothermia...all for some decorative, non-essential Christmas lights! But despite freezing temperatures, death-defying roofs to scale, and the unavoidable nightmare of tangled lights, people get out every year and do their best to create a beautiful display! And it is so worth it! I love driving through snow-covered streets at night to relish the sight of intricately and extravagantly lit houses. Even the most simply lit homes look beautiful against the dark winter sky.

It's no coincidence that we use beautiful lights to celebrate Christmas; the birth of baby Jesus was the dawn of a brilliant light into a dark world, one that we will never forget! John 8:12 tell us, "Jesus...said, "I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won't have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." Though our world is filled with the darkness of fear, tragedy, and hopelessness, the beauty of Christmas is that darkness will not overcome!

Similarly, God also calls us to be His lights in this world. Jesus said, "You are the light of the world-like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father." (Matthew 5:14-16)

Here at SEND, we are grateful that simple Christmas lights can serve as a powerful reminder for the true meaning of Christmas: Jesus' humble entrance into our world to bring light into the darkness, and the amazing opportunity for each of us to shed light into this darkened world!

To learn more about how you can be a light to those around you, please reach out to me! I would love to share with you how SEND young adults learn to live as a light in the darkest corners of our world and how you can get in on the action! Until then, have fun untangling the Christmas lights, and BE CAREFUL ON THAT ROOF!

What I Learned from SEND Graduates

"It changed my life."

I am not surprised when I hear those words from young adults after they complete the SEND experience. Why? Because with God all things are possible.

A few years ago, with the launch of SEND North America, we set out to start something that would have an impact on young people, change their lives, help them grow closer to God, and equip them to be better missionaries and Christians than they thought they could be. And now as I talk with SEND graduates, it is clear to me we are achieving that mission and God is moving and working in the lives of more young adults because of the SEND experience.

This time of year we celebrate and give thanks. We celebrate the birth of Jesus. We give thanks that God really did love the world so much that He sent His son to redeem the world. Personally, I am celebrating and thanking God for all He has done in lives of the young adults and celebrating and thanking God for how SEND has been a vehicle for personal, spiritual transformation.

Participants of SEND have shared time and time again how each step of the SEND experience shaped who they are now. Moving them from some very dark and challenging places in their lives, to living a life that imitates and models what Jesus teaches us.
