SEND Mission: Central America-Belize

As you open this monthly newsletter from SEND, we are in Belize on our year-end mission trip. This year we have partnered again with the Central American Lutheran Mission Society (CALMS), and are involved with a jam-packed week of relational ministry! Please keep our entire team in prayer for travel, safety, and ask that the Lord guide our conversations and witness with the Tubal Institute. We are working with staff and students to be positive witnesses for Jesus. We will be doing devotions, bible studies, prayer, and testimony. We are also doing service with many different churches and, at the end of the week, we will be doing ethnographic research for future missionaries and possible church plants. Our leader, Pastor Steve Huey, asks everyone to please pray that God will help us work well together and serve together as a team anointed by Him and unified by His Spirit. Our SEND team is grateful for all the folks and churches that are supporting us in doing this work. We hope to share what we learn and give testimony when we get back! Thank you!

April Mission: Operation Detroit

In SEND, Servants Equipping New Disciples, one of the most important areas of our process is that of doing mission out in the world, learning and living with a ministry to become better disciples in fulfilling the Great Commission, Matthew 28:16-20. Our process offers a one-of-a-kind training to make modern-day missionaries here in North America. In the month of April, we had a great excursion weekend with the wonderful brothers and sisters of People of the Book Ministries (POBLO). POBLO is a mission movement that allows the Holy Spirit to work
through congregations, individuals, and ethnic Christians desiring to bring the Gospel to new Americans.

Throughout the weekend we visited and shared SEND in three churches! We went to an incredible and eye opening workshop presentation learning about the rapid growth of ISLAM throughout the world. We learned about all the different ethnic groups that comprise our great nation and how to love them and share the Gospel. In the afternoon, we went into a Hindu temple and to a Sikh temple. In doing this we learned about different faiths and cultures, many of whom are open to hear about Jesus. The experience in the Sikh temple was very inspiring, and the people were very nice. They welcomed us, fed us, and talked with us over an hour and a half. We learned about their history and culture and a lot about India. The big take-away in visiting with them was spending time learning how they live their faith and then use that to make us better in ours. This temple has over 10 volunteers at all times running a food pantry/kitchen. ANYONE from any ethnicity or faith is welcome. They have open hours all throughout the day to come in and eat. They gave us tea and incredible food and did not pressure or evangelize us. They just shared and answered questions and most importantly inspired us by what Jesus commands us to do: Love one another.

Another highlight to this weekend was worship. Being with other brothers and sisters of other ethnic backgrounds and worshiping our God! Even through different language, you can't help but be moved when feeling the overall power of the Holy Spirit and the body of Christ in worship. Recruiting a Movement: SEND Unit for 2013/2014

I can't believe we are at the end of a second pioneering year of SEND. We finish this year at the end of May and have already begun recruiting for our third exciting year of making disciples who make disciples! We ask you: if you know of any young adults in their 20s who are not going to college, or who are looking to work in ministry, or looking to take a gap year (year off), please share SEND with them. Our process will start up again next fall and run until next June. Those interested or wanting to know more, please contact Josh Humberger at Church Doctor Ministries by calling 800-626-8515 or emailing Joshua@churchdoctor.org

We are also planning a couple of summer events called "Experience SEND Immersion Weekends!" They will be June 21-23 and August 2-4 in northeast Indiana. Live what it's like in SEND and get all questions answered -- and maybe even apply! We are encouraging not only young adults, but pastors, church leaders, and anyone who has a heart for the future of our church to learn about SEND. These will be a ton of fun. I promise these immersion weekends will be jam-packed with teaching and doing hands-on mission and ministry! Here are the links to the events. We pray you can make it.
