The Passing of Lisa Gould

One of the saddest events in Girl Scouting is to hear of the passing of a sister Girl Scout. The Girl Scouts of the Commonwealth of Virginia family has learned of the death of 01 Leader, Lisa Gould and would like to express our sincerest sympathies to the family at this difficult time. We are so grateful for her service, devotion, influence and efforts. She helped the organization move forward in great strides, and her efforts and contributions will never be forgotten.

The Passing of Margo Sullivan

GSCV staff were saddened to learn that former GSCV Executive Director Margo Sullivan passed away in June. Margo served in the position from the mid-1980s through the early 1990s. After retiring she relocated to Georgia to be near her daughter.

STAFF NEWS
Congrats on Your Retirement, Katherine!

GSCV would like to congratulate Katherine Deliberto on the announcement of her retirement. During Katherine's tenure at GSCV she has served in nearly all areas of GSCV's jurisdiction through the Membership Team.  Her career in Girl Scouting spanned participation as a girl, then a troop leader, and finally as Girl Scout Executive staff.  Katherine's contagious enthusiasm and intense dedication to Girl Scouting inspired many to become troop leaders! She leaves a legacy of growth and sustainability on the organization. She will be missed, and we wish her all the best as she embarks on the next stage of her Girl Scouting career as she is now a Girl Scout Alumnae.

Welcome to GSCV, Lindsay!
GSCV welcomes Lindsay Gould, Membership Consultant covering service units in the northern Chesterfield area. Lindsay is a former Girl Scout and a leader for ten years. She can be reached via [email protected] or 804-746-0590 x314.

Higher Awards Reminder

Please remember that if you have girls that are working on or have completed the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, or Bronze Award, all paperwork needs to be completed and returned to GSCV by end of business on September 30, 2015. By submitting the required information for the Girl Scout Silver and Bronze awards, GSCV can be prepared to recognize this achievement and acknowledge these deserving girls with a letter of congratulations from Molly Fuller, our new CEO. GSCV mails award recognition letters to awardees on a monthly basis. These congratulatory letters are mailed to the address on the girl's paperwork.  Feel free to purchase the Silver or Bronze pin in the shop at any time. It is suggested that you call ahead to verify that we have them in stock, especially during busy times of year like Bridging.

The approval process for the Girl Scout Gold Award Final Report is different. The report is reviewed by a volunteer for completeness, accuracy, evidence of growth, and leadership development. If everything is in order, the girl will receive an email congratulating her on her accomplishments. Then, the council begins the process of building the Girl Scout Gold Award Portfolio by reaching out to local and national organizations and asking they send a letter or certificate of congratulations. The council will collect these and mail them, along with the Girl Scout Gold Award Pin, to the address on the girl's final report. The entire process can take up to 8-10 weeks. If you need the Girl Scout Gold Award Pin before the portfolio is complete, just let us know.

We look forward to seeing all that our girls have done to earn their Girl Scout Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards. Thank you to our volunteers and parents for supporting this process.
