Girl Scouts were Astronomers for a Day

Junior and Cadette Girl Scouts from several troops in the Massaponax Service Unit were "Astronomers for a Day" at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory in Green Bank, WV on December 13 - 14. The girls visited the SkyLab to learn how to identify stars and constellations, and they learned how to operate the facility's 40ft radio telescope to record data all by themselves. An analysis of the data showed the detection of hydrogen clouds in space and our Milky Way galaxy that were moving towards and away from Earth.

Brownie Troop 5087 Learns How to Save Lives

The girls of Brownie Troop 5087 earned their First Aid badge at our January 14 meeting. One of the activities instructed girls how to administer CPR. Each girl received her own "dummy" and DVD which were used in the learning process. These "dummies" will also be used to fulfill the mission of teaching five other people these important skills. The "dummies" were donated by VCU LifeEvac.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

Summer Camp Update

We are looking forward to another great year at Pamunkey Ridge Girl Scout Camp! We hope you are as excited as we are about camp at PRGSC this summer. We have a fantastic staff ready to help ensure girls have a great time. We have a robust selection of programs and a beautiful camp. We hope to see everyone at camp this summer!

With recent staff changes at camp, you will see some new faces this summer as we say goodbye to Samantha "Pepper" Felton. We appreciate the concern that our volunteers have expressed over recent staff changes. As staff, we ask for their understanding of our commitment to treat personnel issues with respect, dignity and confidentiality. We cannot share details or have discussions on personnel issues. Rest assured GSCV will take care of your camp needs. Any camp related questions should be directed to Aaron-Paula Thompson. She is ready to help you in any way possible and can be reached at [email protected] or 804-746-0590 x 322. Our Help Desk is prepared to help you with camp questions as well. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you at camp this summer!
