Over 50 District Employees Attend Erosion and Sedimentation Control Training
| |
 |
DEP Deputy Secretary for Water Management Kelly Heffner welcomes attendees to the Basic/Refresher course which took place in Lebanon County.
|
During the last week of March and the first week of April, a combined 59 county conservation district employees received training on erosion and sedimentation control during two training sessions: a basic/refresher course on the fundamentals of plan reviews and proper inspections, and an advanced/topic-based course on topics that reach beyond basic E&S.
Attendees had this to say about the training sessions:
- I really enjoyed this training and thought it was very helpful in learning the things I will need in this field.
- The topics covered were very good and very helpful. Especially appreciated the "Dealing with Difficult People" and "Safety" presentations.
- Thank you for putting on this training. We look forward to this continuing as an annual event.
- PACD has been doing a great job organizing these events.
These trainings were funded through a grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and made possible through the cooperation of the PA Association of Conservation Districts and Pennsylvania's Conservation Districts.

Arbor Day
| |
Trees provide oxygen, improve air quality, conserve water, preserve soil and supply wildlife habitats. To recognize their contribution to the environment, Arbor Day was established in 1874, noting the importance and necessity of trees. The designation is typically observed the last Friday in April, which is when Pennsylvania will observe. However, other states observe Arbor Day during their tree planting season. If any of your districts are participating in Arbor Day events, please send a photo and caption to brandi-davenport@pacd.org. For more information about Arbor Day, click here.

NACD Stewardship Week
| |
"Dig Deeper: Mysteries in the Soil" is the theme of this year's National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) poster contest and week-long stewardship observance. This annual designation has been set for April 27 through May 4, 2104. NACD's annual poster contest gives children, grades kindergarten through 12th, an opportunity to provide a visual illustration of their understanding of watersheds.
