Registration is Open for the 66th PACD/SCC Joint Annual Conference
| |
 |
Executive Director for the PA Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), Joe Geiger, will present Public Participation and Legislative Effectiveness during the PACD/SCC Joint
Annual Conference.
|
You won't want to miss this year's Joint Annual Conference. In fact, the conference has so much to offer that we can't cover it all here, so this is the first in a series of articles highlighting conference sessions and activities.
Today's highlight is our session on Public Participation and Legislative Effectiveness with Joe Geiger. As Executive Director for the PA Association of Nonprofit Organizations (PANO), Joe Geiger has been instrumental in creating a high-impact membership organization which is responsible for advancing the entire community-benefit sector in Pennsylvania. An expert lobbyist, Geiger is also credited for the passage of Act 55, the Purely Public Charities Act of 1997, which created the Nonprofit Caucus, providing the sector a unified voice on key issues in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Washington, DC. Join us for his presentation on effective legislative tactics, policy, advocacy and local citizen engagement.

Hatch Run Conservation Demo Area is a Nature Enthusiast's Dream
| |
Warren County Conservation District (WCCD) continues to
improve their Hatch Run Conservation Demonstration Area, which will showcase best management practices in a fun and engaging manner. This area has several major components that serve the needs of the public in Warren County.
Currently, WCCD is working on the largest part of the Hatch Run Conservation Demo Area. The Hatch Run Conservation
Education Center is about 70 percent completed. Once finished, the center will provide an area for children and adults to learn about forestry, agriculture, wildlife, soil and water resources. There will be indoor and outdoor classroom settings, which will be home to the new children's nature camp. The education programs will utilize a recreational fishing pond, walking trails and outdoor pavilion in order to engage the public and better educate on all of the areas of conservation.

On April 27th, the Snyder County Conservation District hosted their 6th Women in Ag Forum at the Shade Mountain Winery. Fifty women, staff and speakers enjoyed an informative and relaxing day. Rachel Naylor, Nutrient Management Technician, gave an informative presentation entitled "Do I need a manure management plan or a nutrient management plan?" Deputy Lucas Bingman enlightened the participants on fire arm regulations and the current farm vehicle regulations. Heather Hibbs, Treadle Treasures, entertained the group with her reproduction Civil War attire. Snyder County Commissioner Peggy Chamberlain-Roup delighted the attendees with her witty analogies of women in agriculture. Wendy Hoke, from the PA Department of Health in Snyder County, explained the importance of immunizations that both young and old should receive.
The women were entertained by Tabby Hauck, SUN Area Dairy Miss, who selected three participants and had a milk-tasting contest. Jeanette Blank discussed her role and duties as the 2012 Beaver Fair Queen. Free blood pressure screenings were offered by Kathleen Bingman, R.N. Evangelical Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Specialist. Lunch was catered by Common Grounds Café, Middleburg. The Conservation District would like to thank Shawn Frantz, Ag Choice Farm Credit, Shade Mountain Winery, Mifflinburg Bank and Trust, Ritter Feeds Inc., N.H.
