Town of Westover Hills

We are now in the middle of the expected winter weather event. Presently we have 2 to 3 Inches of sleet and snow on the roads. Deicer has been applied twice but due to the volume of precipitation, the chemicals have been diluted and overwhelmed. We expect sleet to continue for the next two to three hours. Also sand can not be applied until the sleet stops, since sand provides grit that gives traction to tires but has no ice melting properties, it can quickly be covered up with sleet rendering it useless.

Presently, we are relying on mechanical means to clear intersections through the use of a backhoe. This is a slow process, we will begin with intersections and hills so residents can stop and thus prevent accidents. Please be watchful for large chunks of ice as well as large stockpiles of snow and ice, along the side of the road,as the men are blading the streets.

Residents are encouraged to remain indoors, if possible, since the roads are covered with ice and travel may be treacherous. If you must get out, take your time and drive slowly. Employees from the Police and Public Works Departments will be traveling the town providing assistance when needed.

GARBAGE COLLECTION CANCELLED
Due to the winter event garbage collection has been canceled and town employees are concentrating on assisting stranded residents. Pickup will resume on Monday December 9th.

SPECIAL NOTE
There is a possibility of a secondary event coming in on Saturday. The town is watching the developing situation closely and will issue additional notices as the need arises.

We appreciate your patience as we await the end of this inclement weather.
Thank You,

Tim Chambers
Public Works Director
