Drought Measures, Are You Ready?

Greetings!

A meeting was held on December 19th, by the Tarrant Regional Water District, to inform municipal officials of escalating drought conditions. It is our hope that the following information will provide you with helpful information in view of our present climate conditions.

Climate Conditions
Presently, 87% of Texas is experiencing a moderate to extreme drought which includes most of North Central Texas. During the October - November timeframe, the Dallas-Fort Worth area experienced the second driest weather conditions on record with only .05 inches of rain in November. Thus, 2012 is shaping up to be the warmest year on record in Texas with December temperatures averaging nine degrees above normal. State Climatologist have forecast little improvement in the near future.
Water Supply Status

The current combined storage capacity, of all reservoirs, in our area is 77 percent, with a rate of decline of around 1 percent every two weeks. At this rate, the water storage capacity will hit the Stage 1 trigger point of the Water Conservation Plan by the middle of January 2013.
