Central Heights 4th Graders Research Famous Tennesseans

Some students in Mrs. Miller's 4th grade class at Central Heights Elementary have been hard at work researching famous Tennesseans. Students were able to pick from a list of important people in Tennessee History. The students then researched their Tennessean and wrote a report about them. They were to include reasons why this person was important to Tennessee. In their informative essay, they were to have an introduction and conclusion. The students' final copies included a picture of the Tennessean. Mrs. Miller and the students were very proud of their essays. We have some awesome writers in 4th grade!

 What's Happening at Emmett Elementary?
Pre-School
Mrs. Coffey's preschool class  is learning about plants and seeds. Using a potato head theme, the students designed their potato head, filled the cup with soil, planted seed, and watered. We checked for germination every day and had grass in eight days. The clear cups allow the students to view root growth. The students will continue to water their "heads" and use scissors to cut the hair!

1st Grade
First Grade had a special visitor come and read to us. County Commissioner Bob Neal helped us celebrate Read Across America week by reading "Oh the Places You'll Go." Mr. Neal also got to enjoy listening to the first graders as they read the weekly story that they had practiced all week to master. He was so impressed!

3rd Grade
3rd grade science classes have been learning about the solar system. Here they are measuring each planet's distance away from the sun (by scale). Students also did presentations/research projects about planets.

Sullivan North High Marching Band News
The Sullivan North High School Marching Band was asked to perform for the season one final show of the local Fit for Life production at Freedom Hall on April 2.  This was a tremendous honor to play in such a celebrity-oriented arena.  The band escorted band booster president Gary Bortz to the stage playing the Fleetwood Mac tune "Tusk".  Gary was a contestant for the first season, losing over 100 pounds.  The show's creators have worked hard this season to include the band members with timely lessons in choosing a healthy lifestyle with proper diet and exercise.  The episode will air on the CW on April 10th.  Congratulations again to Gary and the band!!
