The newest members of the Roan Scholars Leadership Program at East Tennessee State University have been named. We are proud to announce that Zachary Charles Warren from Sullivan East High School has been selected as a member of the Roan Scholars Class of 2020.
The Roan program, which is funded primarily by private donations, was established in 1997 by Louis H. Gump to attract the region's most promising young leaders and develop each student's unique leadership potential. Students are nominated by their high school and chosen by the Roan Steering Committee on the basis of their overall leadership potential and demonstrated excellence in the four areas of character, intellectual curiosity, physical vigor, and leadership.
Roan Scholars receive a full scholarship to ETSU and four years of customized experiences and opportunities, including international travel and study abroad, internships, workshops and seminars, alumni and community leader interaction, and other unique programs, all of which are focused on equipping students for leadership excellence and making a positive impact.
Zachary Charles Warren, the son of Shane and Athena Warren, lives in Bluff City and attends Sullivan East High School where he is class president. He is ranked first in his class and was named a 2016 National Merit Semifinalist.
As team captain, Zach helped lead the Sullivan East cross-country team to a second-place finish at the 2015 state championship. He is also co-president of his local chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Zach is engaged in public service throughout the community, including participating in mission trips, acting as a Bible study teacher and coaching children in soccer and basketball.
An attendee at ETSU's Rural Medicine Camp last summer, Zach is considering a career as a physician.
