 Emmett Elementary Receives Generous Donation

Our School was given a Huge Generous Donation in 2015! The donation bought our school 25 New Mac Laptops and a charging station computer cart. The Donors also requested with the remaining money that we do a School Wide Christmas Present of our choice. Everyone in the entire school, including students, teachers, assistants, office workers, janitors, and cafeteria workers loaded up and we went to the movies to watch "The Peanuts Movie". When we returned to the school from the movies each classroom was filled with Pizza, Pop/Juice, and Snack cakes for all to enjoy! A huge Thank You to the kind souls who donated the gracious gift to our school.

The Grinch Strikes Again at Emmett Elementary
First grade students arrived at school to discover the Grinch had stolen all their Christmas presents and ornaments.  He even licked all their candy canes green!  The Grinch left a note promising he would return everything if the students learned the real meaning of Christmas and completed all his 'Grinchy' tasks.  Students worked hard to complete each task and ended the day singing the "Wahoo" song together in the gym and discussing the real meaning of Christmas. Afterwards, the first graders returned to their room to find the Grinch had returned all the items and left an amazing 'Grinchy' party. The children enjoyed a Grinch cake, green punch, Grinch kabobs and more.  He even decorated the table!

Holston Elementary 4-H Poster Contest Winners
Congratulations to the Holston 4th grade students that won ribbons for their 4H posters.  We had some fantastic entries this year, and three students earned special ribbons.

Annie Clendinen won a red ribbon with the cutest owl poster.  Her slogan was "4H is a Hoot".  How adorable!

Maggie Fleming and Anne Dalton both received blue ribbons for their posters.  Maggie had an Earth and star theme, and her slogan was "Reading for the Stars".  We thought it was out of this world!

Anne Dalton created a fishing theme for her poster.  The slogan was "Learn by Doing".  That is the official slogan of 4H.  We were "hooked" on her idea, and the judges were too.

In addition, Anne's poster was selected to be in the top 3 of ALL the posters entered in Sullivan County.  AMAZING JOB!!!  Anne's poster will be sent to Knoxville to the 4H Eastern Region Office for regional and possibly state judging.  GO EAGLES!!!!

Innovation Academy 7th Graders Participate in a Geo-Consortium
The Seventh grade students at Innovation Academy of Northeast Tennessee participated in a Geo-Consortium on Thursday, Jan 14. Students represented several mock geological companies and gathered to hear evidence that warranted a theory as to how the continents moved to where they are today. Each "company" worked together to analyze and summarize the evidence that had been presented.  As each piece of evidence was presented, groups developed connections between the new information and their prior knowledge on the topic. Student companies then presented their theories of plate tectonics to the consortium. This activity helped solidify students' learning of convection currents, plate movements, earthquakes, mountain building, volcanoes, seafloor spreading, and the characteristics of the earth's layers, while reinforcing their speaking, listening, and collaboration skills.

Sullivan Central Student Leaders Climb to New Heights!
This fall, the Sullivan Central Leadership Team had an opportunity to enhance their team building and leadership skills at the Greenwood Ropes Course, which is operated by Frontier Health.  These senior boys and girls, who worked so hard all semester as peer mentors to SCHS freshmen, demonstrated thoughtfulness, creativity, and cohesiveness as they spent the first part of the morning working together to complete challenging obstacles.  Students then tapped into their adventurous spirit as they strapped on their harnesses and took on the most daunting high element the Ropes Course has to offer.  They supported and encouraged one another through this task and certainly enjoyed the opportunity to fellowship together as a team. The leadership team is trained and mentored by Mrs. Shelley Martin.

Sullivan East Collects Stuffed Animals for Sullivan County Sheriff's Office
