Congratulations to the Sullivan North High School Marching Band and their recent competition at the John Battle High School Battle of the Bands. The band earned a Superior rating, as well as taking First Place in their division for Percussion, First Place Drum Major, and First Place General Effect.  The guard took 2nd Place in their division.  The band has worked hard the last 4 years to regain a superior status rating.  The band will compete at UVA-Wise on October 24 in a tougher division, so we wish them luck!

Mary Hughes 8th Grade Book Club News

Mary Hughes 8th grade book club recently read abridged versions of Sense and Sensibility and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. They studied the life of Jane Austen and compared the novels to the screenplays. As an ending activity the students held a mock wedding ceremony for Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett. Several students wore Regency Era costumes and brought reception food. Many of the dishes were made from recipes used 200 years ago substituting available current day ingredients found in the cookbook Dining With Mr. Darcy. In Addition Mrs. Sauls recently won $150.00 in books for the MHS Library by taking first place in a book character costume contest at the Tennessee Association of School Librarians. She dressed as Elizabeth Bennett from Pride and Prejudice.

 Indian Springs Music Performance

On October 8, under the leadership of Kristian Hefner, ISE music teacher, the fourth graders performed several musical selections about America.   Every 4th grade student stood proud in their red, white and blue T shirts. Our featured soloist for the performance was Tina Horne, a 2nd grade teacher.  This photo was taken right before the performance began.

Christmas Came Early for the Staff at Ketron Elementary

On Monday, October 19th the staff and faculty at Ketron Elementary School received an early Christmas gift. Walmart, in conjunction with a grandparent of one our students, donated $1000 to the staff.  Due to the generosity of Walmart and the involvement of a dedicated grandparent, each grade level received $150 to spend on their students and the needs of that grade level.  Mrs. Tonya Sowers and Mrs. Julie Nottingham were recipients of an additional $50 gift card for exhibiting dedication and care to AnnLee's grandchildren.

The faculty and staff at Ketron Elementary are very grateful for the blessing we were given through community support. Ketron thanks Walmart and AnnLee for putting our students first and working with our school to provide the best for our students.
