Becky Eastridge, food service worker at Bluff City Elementary School, graduated from the Tennessee School Nutrition Association's Leadership Academy on June 15, 2015 at the annual conference held in Gatlinburg. Becky participated in 25 hours of concentrated training in areas of leadership, personal communication, personality styles, time management, issue development and management, and facilitation skills. Becky's application for Academy was one of a small number chosen from those submitted all over the state. Sullivan County's School Nutrition Program has been very proud to have Becky represent us, and we know she will use the skills she learned to lead and motivate her co-workers and peers!

Emmett Elementary Classroom Now Has Stability Balls in Place of Chairs |
Mrs. Lockner's Class now has stability balls in place of chairs! By having the stability balls students are able to be comfortable while learning, which keeps their attention and focus on the information that is being taught instead of trying to get comfortable. A recent study shows that students were more able to sit still and stay on task while also showing improved posture after switching from a normal chair.

Mary Hughes Leadership Team News |
The Mary Hughes 8th grade Leadership Team has started
an anti-texting campaign and promoting actually talking to each other. Students are realizing that they are attached to their cell phones more than they are to their friends. They want to be examples that abide by the school policy and not have and use their cell phones with them during the day. The Leadership Team has started the campaign by dropping off their cell phones to the Principal's Office and leaving there them. After a couple of days of doing this, the word spread and now the office table is full of cell phones. Students say that they feel less pressure by NOT having the cell phones with them. First of all they are not breaking rules and they feel happier talking to each other rather than using social media. The Leadership Team wants to encourage our school to grow friendships by person-to person conversation, doing your best everyday, and be active and attend our school functions. Together we will change.

Making Connections at Sullivan Central |
Making Connections! After reading the novel, The Things They Carried, Mr. Grindstaff's English III class at Sullivan Central High School chose songs that represented similar themes to the story.
After discussion, the class linked their songs together (literally with string) by theme, finding out how the songs connect to one another and the novel. "The connections were like a light bulb that turned on." -Austin Ramsey
