Holston Valley Middle Eighth Graders Create Video and Poem for Kingsport Vietnam Veterans |
Two Holston Valley Middle School 8th grade students, Hannah Daniel and Kayla Honaker, created a video and poem during last week's class trip to Washington D.C. The poem and video are a tribute and thank you to the Kingsport Vietnam Veterans group that came and spoke to the 8th grade before Spring Break.
HVMS DC Trip --Hannah Daniel
Plato once said, "Love is a serious mental illness." It has the power to turn one insane. And on our visit to the wall, you could instantly feel the pain. Relatives of the the names, engraved onto that wall, Weeping with sorrow, over someone that had not known at all. Leaving roses, notes, and even some tears, They try to remember the past, and remember all their fears; Of battle, training, leaving with no return, Never to see their grandchildren, or even another loved one.
People never realize, death is a painful truth. So when over 50,000 soldiers were sent into war And never to return, people finally learned, life was something more; More than makeup and money, the newest iPhone and shoes. People finally learned life is what you choose. So next time, you walk upon that wall, Just remember all the soldiers who had to fall. Remember the veterans, and the images that never left their brain, And always remember, love is worth the pain.
--Kayla Honaker

Sullivan Gardens Eighth Graders Research Careers |
Eighth graders at Sullivan Gardens K-8 researched careers, created technology-enhanced visual aids, and presented their information in their Information Literacy class with Mrs. Minga, Library Media Specialist. Students evaluated websites to seek accurate information and learn about job descriptions, work environments, pay, education requirements, and much more. This was a great learning experience. They will be able to apply this information again when Mrs. Kassem, guidance counselor, discusses the EXPLORE test results.
