Colonial Heights Principal Interviews

Is it ever good news to be called to the principal's office?  At Colonial Heights Middle School being called to the principal's office can be a pleasurable experience.  As a springboard to the 9th grade, Principal Randall Gilmore is interviewing every eighth grade student in an effort to develop positive principal/student relationships.  His goal is to spark the student's mind to start thinking about high school goals.  Every interview includes three questions: what do you like about yourself; what would you like to change about yourself; and what career are you interested in.  The student's appreciation for Mr. Gilmore's interest is evident in the smiles coming out of the office.

Students to Represent South at the 69th session of the American Legion Auxilary Volunteer Girls State
Chloe Anderson and Emily Beyersdorf have been chosen by faculty vote to represent Sullivan South High School at the 69th session of the American Legion Auxiliary Volunteer Girls State to be held May 24 to 30, 2015 at Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN.  Established in 1946, this program is a non-partisan, non-political attempt to teach and encourage civic responsibility in rising seniors across the state.  ALA VGS provides tested and effective hands-on experience in city, county, and state government, as well as innovative activities and personal growth opportunities.  These activities include, but are not limited to, athletics, academics, public speaking and music.  Congratulations to Chloe and Emily!!!!!

Sullivan North High Band Students Chosen for 2015 All State East

Sullivan North High School Band had two members make 2015 All State East.  Megan Wyrick (10th) made 12th chair Blue Band, and Laken Mooney (9th) made 4th chair Red Band.  Both girls are flute players, and study privately with Martha Egan.

This is the first year ETSBOA has used the format as 11th/12th and 9th/10th.  Previously grades 7-9 were classified as Junior All State East, while 10-12 classification was Senior All State East.  Wyrick  and Mooney attended the festival February 5 - 7 in Gatlinburg, accompanied by Sullivan North High School Band Director Sherry Gillum.

"Time" To Get Moving at Bluff City Elementary

Students in Mrs. Nave's second grade class were really getting into telling time.  The students used their arms for the hour hand and their legs for the minute hand to tell time.  The students enjoyed moving around the clock!

Holston Valley Middle School students Ashley Fields, (6th grade) and Savanna Woods (8th grade) are featured in a video installation piece currently on display at the William King Museum of Art (WKMA) in Abingdon, Virginia. William King Museum Artist-In-Residence, Val Lyle, a Bristol, TN native, is perhaps best known for her recently installed statue, "Take the Stage," opposite the new Birthplace of Country Music Museum. Her focus in the video piece is the importance of education for girls around the world. The exhibition, "Mapping the Cosmos," opened February 5th for First Thursday and will run until May 17, 2015. WKMA is open seven days a week and is free to the public. See www.williamking.org for more information.
