This is been a school vision from the staff, PTA, and community since the school was repurposed into 2012. Central Heights Elementary News |
Fifth grade students at Central Heights Elementary love designing and creating fence messages. "Mustangs - We are Blessed" was the idea students wanted to portray at this time of year to let everyone know we appreciate everything we have and receive. In Gratitude discussions in classes and during guidance time, students agreed they had many things to be thankful for. Our school has many wonderful people and groups that support us in providing coats, shoes, and gifts so it is important to let them know we are blessed. Letters, cards, and crafts created the last couple weeks were sent to all who deserve an extra thanks from the staff and students at Central Heights.

CHMS STEM Club Takes the Punkin' Chunkin' Challenge |
Sixth through 8th grade students involved in a weekly STEM Club at CHMS spent the last month competing in teams to design a catapult that would launch a pumpkin the farthest. First, students went through the design process to build miniature catapults in order to pinpoint the variables involved; such as angle, force, resistance, and mass of the projectile. Students tested their prototypes by launching pumpkin shaped marshmallows and candy. Then, larger scale catapults were used to chuck real pumpkins. The winning team members, Jackson Chartier, Abigail Hilton, Jack Macfarlane, and Gabe Watson, were able to launch their pumpkin approximately 10 meters. Students led by Mrs. Miller, Mrs. Watterson, and Mrs. Dye are currently designing cost-effective ships with lumber (craft sticks), sheet metal (foil), and welding materials (glue) to deliver "pumpkin pies" (pennies) down the "Mississippi River".

Sullivan Central High School Key Club Raises $546 for Ronald McDonald House |
Key Club president Kara White organized a Putting Kids First Putt-Putt fundraiser for Ronald McDonald House in September. Kara and her peers hung flyers throughout the community and sold ads to area businesses to be placed on holes at the Putt Putt course. Students invited friends, family, and community groups to play putt putt and hosted a bake sale during the event. In addition to Key Club students, over 50 community members attended, including churches and civic clubs. Kara White said, "I love the Ronald McDonald House, and am so glad we had the opportunity to give back right here in the community. Everyone worked so hard on this fundraiser; I couldn't be more proud of our club."
