Butterflies Hatched at Central Heights Elementary |
Central Heights Elementary hatched dozens of monarch butterflies this week. This amazing experience was just in time to finish up the study of Life Cycles. Students were able to observe the metamorphosis of the monarch from the pupa stage to the adult butterfly. Students also learned how to tell the difference between a male monarch and a female monarch. This experience really brought Science and the life cycle to life for the students and teachers alike!

Ketron Elementary 2nd Grade Students Collect Can Tabs for Ronald McDonald House |
During the month of September Mrs. Sowers' 2nd grade class collected aluminum can tabs for Ronald McDonald House. This class has a special connection to this charity. One of our students, Kaylee Berry, stayed in the Ronald McDonald House during the time her sister, Trinity Berry, was battling childhood cancer. Trinity was in the 4th grade and Kaylee was just a toddler. Kaylee has watched her sister choose to be brave and strong, and finally beat the rare cancer that had caused so much turmoil in both their lives. Kaylee, too, chooses each day to help in every way she can, whether it be peer tutoring or just helping a classmate navigate a computer. With the support of family, community, and wonderful charities like Ronald McDonald House children and their families can stay close together as they battle terrible childhood illnesses. We, at Ketron Elementary, are privileged to be a part of special events like this. We collected 6 gallon size bags of can tabs!
