Vietnam Veterans of America Visit Blountville Middle |
On Monday, September 15th, student at BMS were treated to some very special guest speakers. Members of the Vietnam Veterans of America spent the entire day speaking to the student body. These amazing men spoke to the students about respect, honor, traditions and their personal experiences in and out of the military. Students had the opportunity to examine several artifacts and items from that time, as well as ask questions. The veterans were also treated to a hotdog lunch, where they entertained several members of the faculty with many wonderful stories. It was a great day.

STEM News from Ketron Elementary |
Our first and second graders are learning about living and nonliving things in STEM by participating in activities such as nature walks and looking up close and personal with things like dead insects, flowers, grass seed, sand, and even live slugs!
Third grade students explored simple machines with Lego kits. The students built simple machines such as levers, pulleys, and gears to see first-hand how each works. A challenge build at the end the week urged students to make a carnival ride using one or more simple machines.
Fourth grade students are doing research in STEM on adaptations of organisms. Students then use Prezi.com to create a presentation.

In this picture, Izzee Wood, along with other fifth graders at Ketron, built soda bottle rockets to test a hypothesis. "I made a three fin rocket," said Izzee. "My hypothesis was that I thought the three fin rocket would go higher than my partner's four fin." Test day results showed that three fin rockets and four fin rockets flew about the same. There was no visible difference.
