Sullivan Central Girls Soccer Team Volunteers

Members of the Sullivan Central Girls Soccer Team volunteered this summer at Second Harvest Food Bank.  The girls put together over 600 boxes and bags of food to be donated to local families!  Awesome work, girls!

 Central Heights Elementary News
Central Heights Elementary is pleased to have established partnerships with two area churches, Immanuel Lutheran and Salem Methodist.  Rev. Lew Kiser from Salem Methodist and several other members provided a wonderful lunch for our faculty on Friday, August 1st.  Rev. Kiser has also offered to be a liaison between his church and our school.

We also greatly value our association with our neighbor, Immanuel Lutheran.   The church regularly makes monetary donations to our food pantry as well as contributing food items gathered by members of the church several times a month.

We greatly value our close partnership with these two great churches and are deeply appreciative to them for the love of our school.

Miller Perry 3rd Grade is off to a Fun and Creative Beginning!
Third grade students in Mrs. Boggs' homeroom created objects out of modeling clay that represented something they did this summer.  Mrs. Boggs believes taking the pressure off of students on the first day is extremely important.  Allowing the students to do something fun and begin with an activity that all students can participate in reduces some of those first day of school fears that many students possess.

Below is a picture of Alexa Litton.  She created a basket full of berries because she and her grandfather went berry picking this summer.

Miller Perry 4th Grade Science off to a Great Start!
We are off to a wonderful year in school in 4th grade Science at Miller Perry Elementary!  During the first week we learned how to use the scientific method to find which bubble gum blows the biggest bubble.  This week we have been exploring plant and animal cells.  We made the incredible, edible cell to help us learn the parts and their functions.  We are looking forward to discussing owl pellets and the arrival of our lizards in the next couple of weeks!

"Math About Me" at Miller Perry

Third grade students at Miller Perry have been busy working on a "Math About Me" project with Mrs. McConnell. Cousins, Elias Carter and Laynie Jordan are showing off their fabulous designs and personal information. The students enjoyed their project and designed great self-images!

 Blountville Middle School News
On July 31st, Blountville Middle School faculty gathered together to have a landscaping work session.  The purpose was to beautify the campus while creating memories and experiences with one another.  The faculty mowed and weeded the entire campus.  They then completely revamped the flower beds with fresh plants and new mulching.  The campus looked amazing for orientation.  Both students and parents have noticed and complimented their work.

Teachers Attend Niswonger AP Chemistry Academy
Richard Coffey (North High School), Gerri St.Clair (South High School), and Kona White-Henson (Central High School) attended the Niswonger AP Chemistry Academy at Greeneville High School on June 24-26.  They collaborated with other Northeast Tennessee AP Chemistry teachers about best practices for teaching AP Chemistry and implementing an inquiry approach to the laboratory component of the class.  The Niswonger Foundation supplied each participant with an AP Chemistry lab kit bundle (16 lab kits total) from Flinn Scientific Co., worth approximately $1000.  Also, Mr. Coffey, Mrs. St. Clair, and Mrs. White-Henson submitted grant proposals to the Niswonger Foundation and they each received approximately $11,500 in laboratory equipment and supplies.
