North/South Military Ball

Sullivan North High School and Sullivan South High School JROTC Units conducted the first joint Military Ball on Saturday - 15 March.  This is the primary formal event for each unit each year and this was the first of many years to come where in the units conducted a joint ball.  The ball was held at the TN National Guard facility in Mount Carmel and was attended by over 200 Cadets, their dates and chaperones.  Cadet Gloria Robinson was crowned Queen of the Ball for Sullivan North.  She was escorted by Cadet Jon White who was promoted to honorary chief petty officer during the ball.  In a time honored tradition, Cadet Commanders from North and South performed a formal cutting of the cake to top the formalities of the evening.

Colonial Heights Middle Celebrates National Pi Day

On Friday, March 14th, the Math Club of Colonial Heights Middle School held a fundraiser in celebration of National Pi Day.  Students explored the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of a circle to discover the value of pi (3.14).  One of the day's events included teachers receiving a pie in the face.  The "winners" with the most student votes were Mrs. Valerie Watterson, Mrs. Carolyn Barry, Principal Randall Gilmore, and Mrs. Stephanie Miller.  Pictured is Math Club member, Caleb Quillen, creaming his math teacher, Mrs. Miller

Emmett Elementary News

Fifth graders at Emmett Elementary have been creating crash test dummies with eggs. Using Newton's Laws of Motion students designed and built carts to safely carry an egg down a ramp, face an impact, and remain unharmed. Out of 16 teams, 13 were successful. Their teacher, Ms. Jarnagin was really impressed.

Rachel Burdine, 5th grade English Language Arts teacher from Miller Perry Elementary has just been published! Ms. Burdine's story along with the others published in the book show how personal character, tenacity, and humor emerge and persevere despite hardships and dark times. The narratives intertwine traditional Appalachian teachings and influences with today's context and challenges.
