Ketron Fifth Grade Teacher Chosen as 98.5 Teacher of the Month

Ketron fifth grade teacher, Beth Light, was nominated by her class as 98.5 Teacher of the Month.  Students wrote a letter (see below) telling why Mrs. Light should be 98.5 Teacher of the Month.  Mrs. Light was awarded a gift package by WTFM radio D.J. Steve Mann on March 12, 2014.

Our teacher, Mrs. Beth Light, deserves to be the Teacher of the Month for many reasons.  Recently, Mrs. Light was sick and missed school for several days, and while she was out we realized what an excellent teacher she is.  Our 5th grade class is very grateful to Mrs. Light for being such an excellent teacher.  This is Mrs. Light's second year of teaching, but she teaches us life skills in addition to academics.  For example, Mrs. Light teaches us manners, how to be respectful to others and how to be leaders.  We have a morning time where we greet each other, look our classmates in the eye and give them a firm handshake.  Mrs. Light encourages us to be confident and to treat each other as one big happy family.  We know that she loves each of her students.

When Mrs. Light is teaching us, she makes learning fun with catchy phrases and sayings to help us remember what she teaches.  An example of this is when she taught us how to divide fractions with the catchy phrase "keep it, switch it, flip it".  She has also taught us turtle multiplication and stick division.  If you were a member of our 5th grade class at Ketron Elementary, you would be as excited about learning as we are!  Our school motto is Inspire, Lead, and Achieve, and that is exactly what our teacher, Mrs. Beth Light, does and that is why we want her to be chosen as 98.5 Teacher of the Month!
Indian Springs Fourth Graders Have Guest Readers

The fourth grade students and teachers of Indian Springs Elementary would like to thank Dr. Timbs and Mrs. Rafalowski for helping us celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 3rd.  We appreciate them taking time out of their day to be our guest readers.

Innovation Academy Tessellations

During the Space Exploration Unit, 8th grade students combined storytelling, Mathematics, and Multi-Media to create an amazing project. In ELA, students heard from an ETSU storytelling professor and learned about the process and techniques of storytelling and how it can be used to engage their audience. During their math classes, students learned about M.C. Escher and his famous tessellations. Students then created their own tessellations using Adobe Photoshop in Multi-Media. The tessellations were then printed off in full poster size so they could be used as their visual aid while presenting their story during the 8th grade student storytelling festival.
