Sullivan South JROTC |
Last week, five cadets from Sullivan South High School JROTC Program (Emily Moore, Brandon Bowen, Spencer Southerland, Ally Bishop and Brenda Castle) visited Rock Springs Elementary School. They performed a flag etiquette presentation to the fifth grade describing how to properly care for the American Flag. The kids learned how to display, fold, and show respect to our flag. They asked a lot of great questions and seemed to enjoy the cadets visit. |

Way to Go Blountville Middle School Tigers! |
Blountville Middle School hosted their first home football game on Tuesday, August 27th. The students participated in their first pep rally of the school year. The BMS band performed "Rocky Top", "Blue" and "We Will Rock You". Athletes in all sports were introduced to the student body and the BETA Club invitations were given to students with a 3.25 GPA or higher. The activities continued on into the evening when the BMS Chorus performed "The Star-Spangled Banner". Cheerleaders made banners and tossed t-shirts, popsicles, cups and beads to the crowd. The Tigers took on Jonesborough and celebrated with a victory of 26-7. It was a glorious day to be a Tiger! |
Rock Springs 4th Grade Marshmallow Engineering Challenge |
Rock Springs Elementary School fourth graders took part in the Marshmallow Challenge. Each team of four students were given 20 spaghetti noodles, 1 yard of string, 1 yard of masking tape, and 1 marshmallow. Each group was then given the task to build the tallest free-standing structure they could with the whole marshmallow to be placed on top. They were told they could use as few or as many of their resources their team wanted. The winning team's tower was measured at 18 1/4 inches tall. Rock Springs fourth grade teachers are Jackie Seto, Caren Venable-Dean, and Jessica Hollomon. Way to go Rock Springs Fourth Graders!

Sullivan Gardens K-8 News |
Sullivan Gardens first graders learned about schools long ago and grandparents were invited to share their experiences in first grade.
Students are also learning about life cycles of plants and animals. In the spring, Kindergarters planted potatoes in the garden. Now in first grade, students visited the garden to harvest the potatoes they planted. While in the garden, we discovered caterpillars and collected a few to take back to the classrooms to observe, measure, and document the life cycle of the butterflies.

North Middle School Library Receives Grant from Lowe's |
North Middle School library received a grant from Lowe's - Toolbox for Education. The school received $5,000 to replace the library tables that were falling apart and create a safe space for our middle school students to read and work while they are in the library. With the money, the school bought eight square tables that create a seating area for 32 students and one large rectangle table was added to the high school seating area. Two recreational reading chairs were also purchased. Eighth grade students helped assemble the furniture and arrange new seating areas. A large THANK YOU to Lowe's Toolbox for Education Grant!
